I can't even begin to describe my joy that the real UFO remasters are finally coming out in October. The catalogue begins with Phenomenon, Force It and No Heavy Petting. Thankfully, the dreadful first 2 albums are being ignored.
These are being handled by EMI in the UK and I assume the whole catalogue up until 1986 will be handled. CD Universe has these very pricey, and I want to weep. Does anyone know anything further as far as bonus tracks and prices?
I'm glad I passed on the Caroline remasters this summer which I believe were just re-issues of the old remasters (see thread here).

Updated release date in title, link to Caroline thread. ~ Linda

Great news on the classic UFO reissues.

However, those looking for a grungy space rock fix ala Hawkwind, Pink Fairies, the 1st two UFO's are a real treat.

The albums prior to working with Ron Nevison were no sonic wonders so I would not expect too much here. The music is fabulous though!!!

OK, here's the scoop on these. These sound amazing. I am so frickin' excited and these all have bonus tracks including stuff nobody has ever heard before! I believe this is part of an ongoing series and I will get them all. I love this band. However, these will be expensive here I'm sure. They will be out Jan. 28 and here are the bonus tracks according to Blabbermouth.net:

EMI is set to reissue UFO's first three Chrysalis albums, with a provisional release date of January 28, 2008 in the UK. The LPs will contain the following bonus tracks:

UFO's latest album, "The Monkey Puzzle", came out in September 2006 via SPV Records. The follow-up to 2004's "You Are Here" was recorded at Area 51 Studios with producer Tommy Newton, who also worked with the band on their last CD and who recorded the material for the band's "Showtime" live album.

I pre ordered these 3 from Tower records in late December and got them for $8.64 USD each with free shipping . I recieved them about a week ago . The sound is truly amazing ! I had to pop in Rock Bottom first to hear Schenkers great solo and I was amazed. The booklets are nice and the bonus tracks (some have been available before) are a nice plus . Overall on a scale of 1 to 10 , I give them a 9 . If the booklets were a little for informative , they'd be a 10 .

Yes, the sound is truly awesome. These are among the best remasters I have ever purchased. The bonus tracks are for the most part quite rare as well. I thought the booklets had a lot of detail-I think they each have at least 5 pages of the story behind each album.
And, I ask-is there actually a better hard rock song then "Rock Bottom"? I mean, damn, after all these years I still can't get over how mean that song is, and Schenker's solo (not to mention every solo he did with UFO) makes want to cry at it's beauty. As pretentious as that statement is, it's true! UFO rule!

About 6 months ago I read about EMI / UK remastering and releasing a ton of cd's from their catalog . So far I have only seen the first 3 UFO cd's from Chrysalis (and they sound great) . Does anybody know when they will continue with this ? I can't wait to get my hands on the remainder of the UFO releases and some others . Any help is appreciated .

Caroline Records will also continue to bring out those UFO reissues that provide a new re-master along with bonus tracks. The classic titles in this batch will include Lights Out (1977); Obsession (1978); and Strangers in the Night (1979). These re-mastered and expanded UFO titles are slated for July 8.

UFO?

I've never heard of that band. But I like them already. Good name... :ohyes:

:funny: :funny: Only one of the best bands of the 70s and beyond. If you like good, melodic hard rock with awesome guitar from Michael Schenker, give 'em a listen!

Thank you. The 70's and 80's are way before my time, but I'm trying to learn all I can about them. :ohyes:

Everyone need to own Lights Out from them. One of rock's great albums. Schenker really burns on that one.

Strangers In The Night is right up there with any of the best live albums of that era. One of my favourites. Whenever I've found someone who's never heard of UFO, that's the one I turned them on to them with.

I can't wait ! ! ! ! ! I have not seen them on Caroline I've only seen the as imports on EMI . The first 3 I already have and they are all on EMI and they were only like 9 bucks each as a preorder . Can't beat that .
And for Mimicker , you must check them out . The new best of would be a great place to start , just to get a taste of them . It's 19 songs on 1 cd , a good sampling from all the Chrysalis albums . There are some 7" single edits on it but still enough to get the picture .

This era of UFO (1977-79) is simply one of the best of any band in in the world. The quality of the music, performances, production and passion involved is awesome. "Strangers In The Night" is always talked about as one of the best live albums ever, because it is! Schenker plays like a demon on that and all of these albums, but with such grace,
"Obsession" is easily my favorite UFO album, though "Lights Out" is of course great as well. "Lights Out" hit the US Top 25 and "Obsession" just missed the Top 40, as did "Strangers In The Night" which went Top 10 in the UK.
I've never understood why "Obsession" wasn't the album that broke UFO into the huge act as predicted here-my guess is Schenker's drug problems (as well as Phil Mogg and Pete Way) really hindered them.
These remasters will be on EMI worldwide, and my guess is Caroline will get them shortly thereafter here in the States. Like Don57, I CANNOT WAIT !!!

Lights Out was the album that turned me onto UFO. They were never NY radio favorites so I/m not sure why I bought Lights Out but it must have heard a track from that album somewhere. Thank goodness I did because it is one album I turn to frequently all these years later. It shall always be on my IPOD.

I would recommend that album to someone who wants to discover UFO.

I'm curious if some bonus cuts will be added to the "Strangers in the Night" CD. The last remastered version added 2 live cuts from that tour... hopefully we'll see even more with this reissue?

I honestly didnt expect Stangers to be added to this round of reissues.

My personal UFO favorite is "The Wild, The Willing, and the Innocent." Can't wait for that one, I guess in the Fall we'll see that last batch of three released. But the first batch of 3 rereleases was fantastic. Any updates on track listings is very appreciated!

I don't think there will be any additional bonus tracks on Strangers. The 2 that were added a few years back brought the running time up to almost 80 minutes . Unless of course they make it a 2cd set.
