I was reading IMWANker JohnnyJ's new column about Myspace and Facebook (thread here viewtopic.php?f=29&t=29549), and it made we ask this question:

Do you think we use IMWAN to scratch the same place that other people use Myspace and Facebook? I just don't get either of those things. Myspace, because I can't even figure out what it does other than give people epileptic seizures looking at it, and Facebook because it seems like a lot of work to find people you want to talk to about stuff.

We just skip right to the talking about cool stuff here. None of that other, unnecessary peopley stuff.

But this may help me understand young people or people who are not as handsome as me. Is what there doing there in some way like what we're doing here?

I will never join either of those places. I like to main some control over who has contact with me. I shudder at the thought of anyone out of my past able to contact me so easily.

Thinking about your (apparently scary) past makes me shudder.

I just realized I created this thread in the Writer's Block, which makes no sense.

Well, if Myspace and Facebook are digital, than yes, IMWAN is the analog. :)

Mine, too. I associate MySpace and Facebook with teenagers and steer clear.

I do Comicspace, livejournal on a limited basis... a couple of Yahoo e-mail groups and a few other comic related forums and messageboards. I try to keep from putting all of my eggs in one online basket. I gave this advice in the Byrne forum and was stoned as a heratic. So when they get pissed at, or get bored with, their friends at the Byrne forum... they just quit socializing online? They try to start from scratch on IMWAN? Jesus.

MySpace doesn't do much for me. Giving folks free rein to customize their pages has led to some eye bleeding experiences. My kids do FaceBook. I just don't have the time to do much more than I'm already doing online.

I don't mind that old friends can find me online through Comicspace. I've found a couple of folks that I've lost touch with through MySpace, a couple have tracked me down through my comic stuff.

I don't do ComicSpace but will again when they relaunch in July. It'll be neat then. Right now it's kind of a graveyard.

I use MySpace when I have a new project coming out, as I have just about every comic shop, library and indie bookstore in my Friends list.

I don't meet people on MySpace or Facebook, I use it to keep in contact with people I already know, especially people who are at college now or something like that .
