(2008-06-10)- The Pretenders "Packed!" remaster

Very cool news that apparantley the Pretenders remasters are continuing, but doesn't look like bonus tracks are here. It states that this is a remaster and is being released on Rhino Encore. Is this just a re-release or an actual remaster? It seems to be a remaster, but hard to tell right now. There are other cool releases as well on this day from Rhino in the same boat.

There's sure plenty of bonus material available from this era; hope they'll rethink this one and take advantage of it.

I think this is the album that Johnny Marr appeared on. What is Rhino Encore?

I have a feeling these will be budget reissues, like the Flashback series. But that's just a guess.

Johnny Marr does not play on the album, but did co-write a song with Chrissie Hynde.

According to CD Universe, packed! is due out June 10 on Rhino Encore (doesn't say whether it's a remaster):

Pause and Play and Amazon.com both have it listed specifically as a remaster, so we'll see. That ominous "at a great price" quote from Rhino Encore makes this sound like a budget-type thing, but we can hope it's for real and not just a straight reissue.

I wouldn't expect too much from them in terms of great packaging or sound quality.
Personally I think Packed is a good lp. And there probably about a jillion of them on ebay right now as one-cent Cds.

They are also re-releasing THE SINGLES, the 1987 greatest hits.

From what I understand they are going to be releasing certain CD's that have either been out of print for a while and have them available
for a six month period only according to the solicitation sheets given to accounts to order off of.

The other thing is that if certain titles sell well, they will then put them out as collectors edition 2 CD sets with bonus tracks.

Still don't know about the remastering. They list for about 13.98.

I know there are a couple of titles I haven't even seen out as imports so it might be worth checking out.

So, if I want a 2-disc Packed, or at least an expanded version to go with the 1st 4 Pretenders' reissues, I will have to first buy the cheap single-disc reissue and hope that others do to encourage my purchase of a second copy? Man, I hope that information is incorrect!

Note that the listing for this "re-release" says O-Card and is actually cheaper than the still-available jewel case version.

As far as I know, "The Singles" is just a re-release and not even being listed as a remaster. "Packed!" however, is listed as being remastered. If that info about testing the market with a single disc release with no bonus tracks to see if people would buy a second one is true, I've never heard anything more foolish.
I guess we're just gonna have to wait and see on these, but I fear for the worst-just generic looking reissues

Um...I bought "Packed!" from amazon.com and it's just a straight reissue of the 1990 original. Same packaging, same mastering...the only thing different from the one I've got is that there's no hole drilled in the jewel case. :sigh:

Um...I bought "Packed!" from amazon.com and it's just a straight reissue of the 1990 original. Same packaging, same mastering...the only thing different from the one I've got is that there's no hole drilled in the jewel case. :sigh:

No surprise-oh well, thanks for the info. Amazon.com should correct their listings of this as a remaster and call it what it is-a REISSUE!
