From Melodicrock.com (about damn time they did this-how about a real live album too?): New York, NY (April 18, 2008)—On June 24, Eagle Rock Entertainment, through its wholly-owned Eagle Vision subsidiary, will release the first-ever live concert on DVD and Blu-Ray from ZZ Top, Live From Texas. With a running time of more than two hours, the disc is filled with the kind of Southern Fried sizzle ZZ Top is world-famous for. Live From Texas features 17 barnburners of blues, barrelhouse boogie and deliciously fuzz-toned hard rock. Singer/guitarist/frontman Billy F Gibbons, Bassist Dusty Hill and Drummer Frank Beard make up one of the most instantly recognizable bands in rock history. From their 1969 Houston inception to this 2008 DVD release, they are the only major band in history to never have had a personnel change in almost a 40-year history. These Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are known for their self-designed custom guitars and irony-filled stage act. In their early career, they were also known for eschewing any and all musical encumbrances, opting for the dirty-soul hard-rock guitar-bass-drum simplicity of pure blues-inflected rock virtuosity that one felt in the gut. Things changed radically with the 1983 release of Eliminator which—gasp!—incorporated synthesizers and sequencers. Hard line purists may have been shocked but the result was their biggest-selling (more than 10 times platinum) album, making major hit singles out of “Gimme All Your Lovin',” “Legs” and “Sharp Dressed Man.” The albums release coincided with the rise of MTV and videos for those songs became all the rage and are still cultural totems to this day. Bonus features on Live From Texas include Gibbons, Hill and Beard discussing the evolution of the band over a hot game of poker. Viewers will also go behind-the-scenes on show day in Dallas and on location on a band photo shoot. There is also one bonus track: a ZZ Top's reverent re-interpretation of Jimi Hendrix's “Foxy Lady.” Plus, initial quantities of the DVD will come packaged in a slimline digipack with booklet of exclusive live photos.
[bigred]Video[/bigred] [lilred]June 24, 2008[/lilred] ZZ Top, the "little ol' band from Texas", has enjoyed enormous success on a global scale since their breakthrough in the early seventies and then their groundbreaking albums in the mid-eighties. Now for the first time one of ZZ Top's legendary live performances has been filmed for simultaneous release on DVD & Blu-ray. The track listing spans their career from early tracks such as "Waitin' For The Bus", "Just Got Paid" and the classic "La Grange", through their eighties blockbusters including "Gimme All Your Lovin'" and "Legs" (complete with furry guitars!) and up to more recent hits like "Pin Cushion". Filmed in their home state of Texas in front of a wildly enthusiastic audience, this DVD & Blu-ray captures ZZ Top at their very best. Should stick out like a sore thumb amongst the rest of the titles on this disc. Too bad the bonus features don't include a video of their legendary "Worldwide Texas Tour" from 1976 (do I have that year right?). I'll wait for reviews of this one.

I believe this was filmed in 2007. "Pincushion" is the latest song on here (1994) and that song kills, especially live. I have a pro-shot DVD from Camden, NJ in 2003 and the show is good, but not great. They seem to go through the motions quite a bit now, but I'll still get this. To my knowledge, sadly there is no video footage of the '76 tour which had actual cattle, snakes, spiders, and even desert cactii (or is it cacti?) on stage!

Back in those days, there was no home video and no MTV, so I'm sure many great performances are lost to the ages. They probably didn't see the point in spending all the money on a video crew, etc. Which is why when something from that era does come out, it's a treat. KISS videotaped many of their concerts from the seventies. Initially, it was so they could watch the performances adn critique them, figuring out what stage moves worked and what didn't, etc. It paid off for them down the line, though - they sold the rights to their 1977 Japan concert for a one-time-only showing on HBO in 1979 for big bucks and later released some of these shows on the KISSology DVDs. Too bad ZZ Top didn't film that. You'd think they'd want to have a record of such an extraordinary show, just for posterity's sake.

You know, I was excited about this at first but seeing the track list now, Im not so sure. Thers nothing from "Afterburner" or "Recycler".
What I really wish they'd do is release a DVD from the "Afterburner" tour. That's when they had the stage that started out as a car dashboard, and turned into the cockpit of a spaceship. As the concert went on the "fuel gauge" decreased.
IP's right. Even when I've seen them on recent TV appearences it's like they're almost sleepwalking through thier sets...

The recyler show i saw was great, as there was "recycling" going on all during the show. I sure do miss the spectacle that rock concerts used to be.

The Wednesday edition of Musictap.com is reporting that the Eagle Rock label will release a live ZZ Top cd on November 4th called " Live from Texas ". I assume it's being pulled from their DVD that came out recently.

i remember when it was questionable as to whether zz top was actually playing live in their shows or if they were using tape. i saw footage of lead guitar notes playing and billy gibbons not touching the guitar with either hand.
always figured that was why they never had a live album.

Finally, their first real live album ever ("Fandango" only was half live and really was just a few covers), and it feels more like an afterthought following the DVD, which I must say is excellent all the way-a tremendous performance and so much better than what I've seen in recent years and it's all live. Of course, the CD deletes the 2 best songs "Pin Cushion" and "Heard It On The X"-absolutely baffling! As for ZZ Top not playing "live" I have never heard of such a thing, especially when it comes to Billy Gibbons-they did use programming in the 80s for keyboards and backing vocals, but who didn't?

Deleting Pin Cushion and Heard It On The X , whats up with that ? Get rid of Rough Boy , Gimme All Your Lovin' or Legs instead . Too bad Pin Cushion is the only post "popular ZZ Top" song they play live . I really like their last 4 albums .
