This makes two days in a row I've had people asking about the graphic novels we've been buying for the library. One was a teenager. The other one was a man with two boys who have gotten into the digests. He said that one doesn't like to read much, but the comics have been getting his attention. I told him about some more items we have. He asked about one title we don't have yet. I invited him to put in a request for it.

You know, sometimes this is a really good job!

Most of the comics I've ordered have been items I've seen recommended on web sites like this one. Guess it means I haven't just been wasting my time when I visit message boards. I can actually claim that this is part of the job!

Our library has an excellent selection of comic graphic novels. Know what my kids are hooked on? Disney comics. The library subscribes to WDC&S and Uncle Scrooge from Gemstone. Thankfully, there is a large back catalog of them, as they read them 8 or 10 at a time. These are 64 page, "prestige format" books with sturdy spines, so they fit nicely on a shelf. They also enjoy reading the classic Marvel and DC stuff from the 70s and 80s, but not so much from the 60s (it's too wordy).

We have some of those Disney books. I need to do some checking to see how well they've been doing.
