Jan 11, 2008
Flight Of The Conchords are set to release a full album this year.
The comedy duo, who became the cult TV hit of last year with their HBO sitcom, will release an album of their songs on acclaimed indie label Sub Pop.
The label previous released the ’The Distant Future EP’ featuring the favourites from the TV show including ’Business Time’, ’If You’re Into It’ and ’Not Crying’.
They have now confirmed the band are doing an album, explaining: “We will be releasing a Flight Of The Conchords full-length recording sometime in early 2008” on the official Sub Pop site.
Meanwhile the pair’s – due to start filming their second series in New York in June – made their first appearance of 2008 appearing at recent technology conference CES.

Here's the album: This acclaimed Kiwi novelty band follow the release of their six-track Grammy Award-winning CD EP "The Distant Future" with their full-length debut. Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement's trademark acoustic guitars lead the blitz, backed by a diverse array of instrumentation and production technique. If amazing, delightful, and hilarious is your idea of funny, then prepare for undisappointment. These fifteen songs pay homage to Pet Shop Boys, censorship, Marvin Gaye, sexism, Shabba Ranks, and backhanded compliments. 1. Foux du Fafa 2. Inner City Pressure 3. Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros 4. Think About It 5. Ladies of the World 6. Mutha'uckas 7. Prince of Parties 8. Leggy Blonde 9. Robots 10. Boom 11. A Kiss is Not a Contract 12. I love these guys.
I hope they don't make the same mistake Tenacious D made and over produce their songs. They work so much better acoustically.

http://www.nme.com/news/flight-of-the-conchords/33601'Flight Of The Conchords' man offers to manage Oasis
Jan 11, 2008
The Flight Of The Conchords manager has spoken exclusively to NME.COM, offering his services to some of indie’s biggest stars.
While the band are currently working on a new album and TV series, actor Rhys Darby, who plays their manager Murray Hewitt, has been keeping busy with a few projects.
“It’s kind of been a crazy rocket ride to Hollywood,” he explained from the set of film 'Yes Man'. “It was very daunting my first week here, on the set as all my scenes are with Jim Carey. It’s only really my second onscreen role after Conchords!”
In the meantime, then, we thought we would have a chat with Flight Of The Conchords' hapless manager Murray Hewitt, and got his advice for three of rock’s biggest management handfuls.
Here are "Murray's" pearls of music management wisdom:
Pete Doherty “With Pete Doherty, first of all I’d set him down and tell him he’s going to have to tidy himself up. He’s going to have to get his haircut. He’s going to too many parties, I know the rock 'n' roll lifestyle will lead you to a lot of parties but he needs to stop. Also, have you ever thought of drinking water? What you want to do is have beer in your hand when people are looking at you, but you don’t need to drink it. The image is more important, get the look but then drink water. That’s what the Conchords do. You’re hanging out with the wrong people, Pete, some of these people, they’re trash. You won’t succeed with a lot of these types, try measuring yourself on The Beatles.”
Oasis “They’ve modelled themselves on a nice respectable band The Beatles, they got that right, but I’m not sure about the name. What does it mean? Basically it’s a small pond of water in a dry desert. OK, it’s not too bad, but you could do better? You two guys have got to get on though. You keep arguing, it’s not good. From the experience I’ve had I don’t think brothers is going to work. I might have to split you up into two different bands to be fair. One can be Oasis and the other one can be Mirage - that’s another desert name.”
Amy Winehouse “Oh my god! For a start it’s all in the surname. You want to change that. A lot of people hear that, they can tell she’s off the rails. Why not change it to Amy Music-fun? People will see that’s what you’re into, fun, but mainly music, not just staying at home and drinking wine! You need to something with your look. Eat more! What we should do is only have lunch meetings, we’ll have a good feed and then we’ll talk about the people you’re hanging out with. She knows that Pete Doherty guy? It’s the same advice again really: model yourself on a nice pop band! Perhaps Amy could try The Kinks this time, and for heaven’s sake do something with your hair! It’s ridiculous.”

http://www.nme.com/news/flight-of-the-conchords/36221Flight Of The Conchords cause Beatles-like frenzy in LA
Apr 25, 2008
Flight Of The Conchords caused a Beatles-like frenzy in Los Angeles yesterday (April 24), where they performed for a packed house at Amoeba Records.
Hundreds of screaming fans had to be turned away because the New Zealand musical comedy duo brought out a massive crowd that reportedly rivalled that of former Beatle Paul McCartney, who performed at the same venue last year.
The pair played a handful of tracks from their new self-titled album, which was released in the US earlier this week and has already won a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album.
Technical problems with Bret's DG20 digital guitar delayed the start of their set, but they kept the crowd entertained with humourous banter before launching into the acoustic song 'Beautiful Girl'.
Several fans held up hand-made signs, including one woman whose sign read, "Bret will you go to the prom with me?" "That's pretty cheeky, you must be pretty young," Bret responded when he saw the sign. "I'm 26," the girl jokingly answered. "So you're not so smart?" Bret quipped right back.
During their rendition of 'Inner City Pressure', Jemaine inserted names of several nearby cities including Hollywood and Studio City, and the crowd cheered in response.
The audience sang along to crowd-pleasers 'Albi The Racist Dragon' and 'Bowie', after which Bret and Jemaine pretended to float off into space as they left the stage.
The enthusiastic fans cheered loudly until the duo returned for an encore wearing cardboard robot heads to perform one final song, 'Robots Boom'.
Flight Of The Conchords played:
'The Most Beautiful Girl (In The Room)' 'Inner City Pressure' 'Mutha'uckas' 'Albi The Racist Dragon' 'The Prince Of Parties' 'Bowie' 'Robots Boom'

http://www.nme.com/news/flight-of-the-conchords/36330Flight Of The Conchords fly up US chart
May 1, 2008
Flight Of The Conchords' new album debuted at Number Three on the US Billboard chart this week, beating out pop star Ashlee Simpson who came in at Number Four.
Flight Of The Conchords sold 52,000 copies of their debut self-titled album this week, while Simpson moved 47,000 copies of 'Bittersweet World'.
The New Zealand musical comedy duo have reportedly set a new record for a Kiwi act, surpassing Crowded House's Number 12 debut in 1986.
The comedy team have really taken off in the US in recent months, scoring a cult hit with their self-titled HBO comedy series, earning the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album, and drawing a massive crowd to their performance in Los Angeles last week, as previously reported.
Meanwhile, Mariah Carey maintained her Number One spot on the chart, selling 182,000 copies of 'E=MC2'.
British 'X Factor' winner Leona Lewis earned the Number Two spot, selling 96,000 copies of 'Spirit'.
Hip-hop artist Atmosphere rounded out the Top Five with 'When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Sh*t Gold'.

Not only are these guys very clever parodists, but the songs are good enough to stand on their own. My pick to click is "Inner City Pressure," which bears more than a passing resemblance to the Pet Shop Boys' "West End Girls."

The accompanying "video" is also a brilliant parody! Edit: I tried a couple of times to embed a You Tube video for the song, but was unsuccessful. Go to you tube and type in "Inner City Pressure" in the search window, and you'll see it.
