Hey, the most cliche topic for a comiccook forum, but still always fun--

What are your top ten superheroes of all time?

If you have the patience and inclination, explain why they're your faves.

I don't have the patience but almost have the inclination. This is my list, but note I only spent a minute on it so it is definately wrong and not in order.

1, Spider-Man
2, Nightwing
3, Robin (Tim Drake)
4, Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner)
5, Hawkeye
6, Captain America
7, Daredevil
8, Yellowjacket
9,Batman
10,Mon-el

In no Particular Order:

Batman - OK he is in order, my favorite because of his malleability and so many good stories have been written about him

The Spectre - The Fleischer/Aparo version before he became too godlike, very cathartic character to read

Metamorpho - I love the funky 60's heroes and he embodies that spirit perfectly

The Flash - Beautiful in the simplicity of concept and costume

Green Lantern - Another great concept, Earth man becomes space cop with the ultimate weapon

The Thing - A regular joe who doesn't let his tragedy stop him from being a hero or having a sense of humor (see also the beast and Metamorpho)

Spider-Man - Great costume and inventive powers, love the geek turned hero arc

The Beast - Fuzzy version, for the same reasons as Ben and Rex

Elongated Man - I was a goofball with red hair, he reminded me of me if I was to be a hero

Superman - Started it all, a great character when written well

To Be fair - Wally took over in the 80's

I did like DC in the 90's
They took advantage of Marvels Slump.
Thats when I quit Marvel for a while and really discovered DC.

In mostly this order, I think:

Yellowjacket (1st character I liked when I was a kid. Still love him and have a copy of Avengers #59 on the wall)

Martian Manhunter (Why hasn't someone done a solo series right? He's Batman and Superman all rolled together and far more interesting. Shouldn't this be a no brainer?)

Vision (to me he's just the android, Marvel Martian Manhunter)

Thor (the Roger Stern "I show up in dire situations and beat the crap out of people" version)

Green Arrow (Olli, of course)

Starman (the Stern version from the 80's. A great comic more people need to track down)

Mister Miracle (Kirby's or the funny 80's one. Just keep Grant Morrison away from him, please)

Blue Beetle (and just like Mahoney said, only Ted Kord and only with Booster Gold)

Hawkeye (I use to love the conflicts between him and Cap and later USAgent)

The Question (Vic Sage, but I like the Renee Montoya Question, too)

10- Iron Man ( for now at least-- pumped about that movie!)
9- Batman (DKR version)
8- Hellboy
7- Wolverine
6- The Dragon
5- Madman
4- Spider-Man
3- The Hulk

A tragic and epic sci fi character.

2- Thor

Comics greatest badass, flat out.

1- Superman (Silver Age)

The ultimate superhero-- his powers and his rich Kryptonian heritage make him an endlessly fascinating character to me. His motivations and relationships are all unusual and the character has this hint of alientation and loneliness despite being "too powerful and too perfect", which shows that having all the admiration and power in the world don't necessarily bring happiness and that doing the right thing can have a great cost. The Clark Kent identity is a great allegory for self-rejection and a symbol of turning away from yourself to achieve self actualization may not be the way to go. A rich, deep character that has within him the many complexities and potentials of the human race and the individual.

Uh oh Frolynnd... I don't think you are going to like the first issue of Final Crisis if the rumors are true...

My favorites:

1. Batman - the ultimate self-made hero, with one of the best costumes ever

2. Spider-Man - usually gets great wisecracks. Easy to relate to, and like Batman, the whole swinging-through-the-city aspect looks like fun.

3. Iron Man - another self-made hero, and a techie to boot, so I identify with him. I mostly ignore the recent portrayals of the character, but he may be getting better again.

4. The Confessor - the star of one of my favorite comic stories ever. I just wish there were more stories with him. I could probably include several other Astro City characters as well if I had more stories of them.

5. Hawkeye - another self-made hero, with attitude.

6. Thor - Simonson. 'Nuff said. Well, I liked him pretty well before Simonson too, and after.

7. She-Hulk - one of the most consistently fun characters out there.

8. Green Lantern (Hal, mostly) - I dig the space cop aspect. A great premise for science fiction stories.

9. The Thing - great appearance and personality, one of the lynchpins of the Marvel Universe.

10. Reed Richards - I could care less about his stretchy powers. But he's the biggest badass scientist in the Marvel U, and I like him for that.

Runners up:

Wolverine - well, he was my favorite for much of my childhood. Claws and attitude, woo hoo. I'm mostly listing him for historical reasons; I don't really care so much about him now.

Beast - bring back the fun version on Avengers, and he'd be in

Ms Marvel - becoming a favorite, not yet top 10 though

Hawkeye II (Kate Bishop) - not enough stories. Will there ever be more? I mean, good ones?

Nightwing & Tim Drake - very cool, but also derivative of Batman and each other. Maybe just put "Batman and family" in the top slot.

The Flash - I always liked his powers; I just haven't gotten around to reading many of his solo stories

The Hulk - maybe he should be top 10 based on the PAD run. But he's not as interesting to me in the hands of most other writers.

Why did I not think of that? D'oh.
