I just saw a Saturn Commercial with a song that heavily sampled/ripped off Zeppelin's Travalling Riverside Blues... I think.... what song was in the commercial? Anyone?

Hey this s my first ICE post!

I thought the same exact thing last night! It's definitely a *sample* of the slide riff in whatever song they're using in the spot. Funny, since Zep is the corporate music of their sibling, Cadillac.

There's a local TV ad here on LI that uses a blatant rip-off of "Centerfield" by John Fogerty. I guess they figure he'll never see/hear it.

"ripping off led zep" is kind of an oxymoron, since led zep were the kings of stealing riffs anyway.

Adtunes.com might help, although there doesn't seem to be any discussion of Saturn commercials since Septemeber 2007, when a song titled "Higher" by Daniel Cage was used. I don't know the Zep song in question or the commercial, so I can't offer much input. Maybe "Higher" is the one in question.

I haven't seen the commercial, but wasn't Zep's Travelling Riverside Blues a complete knockoff of Robert Johnson's, without giving him credit?

A lot of Zep's early songs were Johnson's ripoffs. But still...I'm glad that I haven't heard/seen this yet.

Now might be a good time for another listen to Gary Moore's "Led Clones." He has never been a fan of Jimmy Page.

I have seen the commercial. Using a slide passed thru some phasing and filtering doesn't make it a Zep rip-off, Sonny Landreth, Roy Clark, Black Sorrows, etc have all used this effect.

Sounded like the same riff to me.

Um, that song actually was bashing Led Zep ripoffs and was directly aimed at the worst Zep clones Kingdom Come. Ozzy also added backing vocals to that track.
I don't know why Gary Moore would say anything bad about Jimmy Page or when he did. Both Moore and Page are awesome in opposite ways.
Also, "Travelling Riverside Blues" is definitely not a Zep original despite the copyright-it came from a Robert Johnson song or one of those old blues dudes.

the one that has always astounded me is the immense similarity between the first few bars of spirit's "taurus" and the first few bars of "stairway to heaven".
