Just about every creator of a certain generation mentions Caniff and Terry and the Pirates as an influence, so I might actually check this out.

Not again.

I've purchased Terry in three3 different formats, so far. The NBM hardcovers (but the Sundays weren't in color, and I'm missing the first one or two); the NBM/flying Buttress soft covers (to fillin the gaps in the hardcovers); and the REMCO/Kitchen Sink, which promised to reprint them all with the Sundays in Color, but stalled after two volumes.

And now it looks like I'll be suckered in again. . . .

Excellent. The price is a bit steep, and I'd probably just as soon have all of the Sunday comics in black and white, but I'm sure I'll make room in my budget for these.

My Dad was seriously into Milton Caniff. Terry and Pirates did little for me in my youth, but I am better
able to appreciate Caniff's work today. As I enjoy Ditko and Toth, it is natural for me to enjoy the work
of Caniff. Strangely enough, though, it isn't his artwork that slowed me down as a youth, but the actual
subject material which served to stagnate my interest. I always liked the art.

In contrast, I have never been as impressed with the artwork of Harold Gray, but his Little Orphan Annie
stories and adventures drew me in easily. There is redundancy in Gray's plots, and you see that more
and more as you read the entire body of the LOA work, but I love all of it. I am still waiting for my delayed
copy of the first book of IDW's Complete Little Orphan Annie works.

Just stopping buy to say I love Terry and the Pirates. I read it every morning, like a real newspaper comic. I'm on Volume 4 now, in 1941.

It was the original Indiana Jones, war comic, Duck Tales, everything all rolled into one. And the women characters are one of the most interesting things about it.

It's my dream to write a comic strip half this good.
