Believe it or not, I was planning to ask you a question

I was wondering about your upcoming JLA arc with John
Byrne (which I'm greatly looking forward to). I know you
didn't want to "jinx" the project before, but since Byrne's
already let the cat out of the bag, I figure it's safe to talk
about. I was just curious about what kind of planning you
do beforehand on a project like that? I asked Kurt
Busiek earlier about writing a story tailored specifically to
an artists strengths. Like, if I were hired by DC to write
a JLA arc & told that John Byrne was drawing it, I might
think to myself "Well, Byrne loves time travel stories, & he
loves drawing Kirby characters, so maybe I'll have the
JLA going back in time to to stop a plot by
some renegade New Gods to assassinate Darkseid before
he took over Apokolips." Or if I were told Jim Lee were
drawing it, I might think, "Lee draws really sexy women,
so let's have JLA facing an army of extraterrestrial cyborg
succubus' (succubi?)."

Those aren't any serious plots (obviously ), I'm just making
this up as I go along sort of to clarify my point. Or is this
going to be like Byrne's run with Claremont, where you
wait for him to send you the plots & then you write
the script?

Welcome, Mr. Stern. Let me just say that your work on AVENGERS was fantastic. I collected that book monthly for over ten years, and your run with Buscema was the best part of that period. Thanks!!

Glad you came to visit, Mr. Stern. Your Dr. Strange was nearest and dearest to my heart in the 1980s. I hope you have the opportunity to write the character again. Oh, and your Avengers. Oh, and your Hulk. Oh, and lots of other stuff!

Being mainly a DC kid, I'm more familiar with your DC work. I'm looking forward to the Wizard Spider-Man collection so I can familiarize myself with some of your tales of the webbed one. I do have your Captain America collection. Good stuff all around.

I'm a big Dr. Strange fan, and I LOVED your run on the character. Some fave stories: The Dracula epic. The Dr. Strange/Dr. Doom graphic novel. "Charlatan" (about the charlatan magician who gets ahold of some real magic words.). The World War II epic with Dormammu, Baron Mordo and Sgt. Fury all thrown into the mix!

All good stuff.

Doc's actually my second-favorite character, though. Spider-Man has to be number one because, to me, he's the most relatable. I really love what you did with him, too. You had a great grasp on the character!

A thought just occurred to me; "Roger Stern" is the name of the first comic writer I came to recognize, after Stan Lee. And recognize for its quality. Thanks again, Rog.

I dont know if you remember but we met once - you came to Montreal to do a singing in the early 90s at a store here (Capitaine Quebec comics) - I worked there at the time (you came with Denis Rodier) and it was a pleasure meeting you.

I remember telling you that my parents are from Ithaka Greece and you told me that you lived in Ithaca New york...

Can anyone recommend some issues of Dr Strange and Power of the Atom that Roger wrote ? (those are two series Im interested in from him that Ive never picked up)....

Any specific issues that stand out? (which issues of each series did he pen?)...Im going to a con in October and may get the chance to pick some up...Who were the artists on these series?

As it ends up, I do have a collection of the Roger Stern/John Romita jr. Amazing Spider-Mans. Back in 2000 Marvel released their "Backpack" books. They were black and white books that were slightly bigger than pocket-sized.

I purchased the Avengers one that covered the John Byrne issues he did in the 70s and also an Amazing Spider-Man one that includes issues 224-230. I'd forgotten I had the book and more importantly hadn't paid attention to who worked on the stories. For some reason I was thinking Jan Strnad wrote them all. Instead he only wrote one of the stories, the rest are written by Roger.

They're fun stories (Big Fun as Melissa Ashton is fond of saying.) Characters like The Vulture, The Black Cat and The Juggernaut make guest appearances.

Gotta say, that two part Juggernaut story and "The Kid Who Collected Spider-Man" are my two favorite non-Stan Lee penned Spider-Man stories.
