Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes’ top selling, highest charting album, simply entitled The Jukes, has long been unavailable on compact disc, but Hip-O Select will remedy that situation on 10/9/07.

[title]The Jukes[/title] was the 1979 Mercury Records debut wherein guitarist Billy Rush and leader John Lyon collaborated or wrote by themselves such popular songs as “All I Want Is Everything,” “I’m So Anxious,” “Security,” and “Living In The Real World,” and the record soared into the Top 50 on the Billboard albums charts. The record fell out of circulation on CD during various corporate mergers, and has been unavailable for nearly a decade. However, it is now returned to print on Hip-O Select in a newly remastered edition, complete with all original artwork, photos and song lyrics.

1. All I Want Is Everything
2. I'm So Anxious
3. Paris
4. Security
5. Living In The Real World
6. Your Reply
7. The Time
8. I Remember Last Night
9. Wait In Vain
10. Vertigo

My brother rented the backroom of the bass player for the Jukes. Nice guy.

My favorite song was "Love on the Wrong Side of Town," because I always seemd to date girls who lived about 30 miles away.

Why oh why oh why didn't they choose one that's never been on CD before domestically, like "In The Heat" or "Trash It Up"? I already have this one! :sigh:

I love how they say "Previously Unavailable" on the website. Mine must just be a mirage.

Even though I already own this several times over, I too have ordered a copy, because this was my first taste of Southside back in the day. Really strong songwriting, despite the absence of Bruce and Miami Steve in that department, particularly "Paris" and "The Time".

I agree with your lament, Walter. Hopefully someone will get around to releasing In The Heat, I don't even have vinyl for that one. I am very happy with the BGO re-issues of the first 2 records (on a two-fer) and Hearts of Stone, let's hope this one will sound as good.

[bigred]1978: Live in Boston[/bigred]
[lilred]April 15, 2008[/lilred]

SOUTHSIDE JOHNNY & THE ASBURY JUKES were at a crucial point in their career when they performed the concert heard on this live album. Two months earlier, they had released their third album, HEARTS OF STONE, the most critically acclaimed album they ever made. Like its predecessors, I DON'T WANT TO GO HOME and THIS TIME IT'S FOR REAL, HEARTS OF STONE was produced by Miami Steve Van Zandt and featured songs written by Van Zandt and Bruce Springsteen. Both of the band's first two albums had been moderate sellers - HEARTS OF STONE need to be a bigger seller to advance the Jukes, but as of December 23, it was just becoming apparent that this might not happen; the LP stumbled in the charts, and no single had emerged. If the band was apprehensive about its future, however, that only translated into a more fervent performance in Boston. The set includes four selections from the new album, among them the Southside/Springsteen/Van Zandt composition TRAPPED AGAIN, and the Southside signature song, THE FEVER, here given an 11-plus minute reading. The show ends, inevitably, with a pair of Christmas songs that have not appeared on any previous Southside Johnny collection. It all sounds like a triumphant evening with a tight band and its bantam frontman playing well before an enthusiastic audience.

1. This Time It's For Real
2. Love On The Wrong Side Of Town
3. Got Me Where She Wants
4. Talk To Me
5. Next To You
6. Trapped Again
7. The Fever
8. I Don't Want To Go Home
9. Having A Party
10. The Time Baby's Gone For Good
11. When You Dance
12. Stagger Lee
13. Santa Claus Is Back In Town
14. Merry Christmas Baby

This is the same as the "Live At The Paradise" from some years back. As much as it's a good album, the old cover was no prize and this new one is butt ugly.

Can anyone vouch for the sound quality? How good or bad is it?

Brush with greatness: my brother sublet a room in the apartment of the Jukes' bass player. My wife and I got into a concert free that way once. I should pick this up.

I've seen the Jukes at least 25 times. They never do a bad show.

They're just re-releasing that thing? What's the point? :o

There's so many great live shows out there, you'd think there could be a whole series of live shows from the classic period.
(A few shows from when Miami was still in the band would be appreciated as well!)

That cover is absolutely brutal. How about a great live shot showing the energy of a vintage Jukes show?

They were probably able to license it cheaply. I mean, how many versions of those early Santana, early Becker and Fagen(Steely Dan) and early Chicago live CDs have circulated over the years??

The UK edition is much cheaper- $ 17.93 versus $ 31.99. The dollar is really down against other currencies.

Hmmm...I'm going to be seeing Southside again in June at the Casino Ballroom in beautiful downtown Hampton Beach, NH. (We go there every year to see Southside, this year playing with whatever's left of Little Feat!) I wonder if they'll be selling this one there. It's probably a little too obscure for a souvenir stand though.

Nice to see some Southside titles being released but how about the promo-only live lp from the 70's?
