Gee... I wonder if this one will be copy protected again. What a complete disaster that was for his last release and even with the reissue, a pretty decent album couldn't be saved.

I believe now that Rick Rubin is a Columbia exec, Neil should be in good hands this time...Rubin still expresses disappointment and disgust in interviews over how 12 SONGS was (mis)handled. Hopefully, a great deal of publicity will greet this new disc and it will be as worthy a recording as its predecessor.

There seems to be two different options on this release. Maybe the cheaper one comes with the spyware, and the other doesn't

You're right, AmazWan has two different listings, one with a list price of $22.97, the other $13.97.
Since the previous 12 Songs was eventually reissued with a second disc, maybe this time we get a choice on day one.

The higher-priced one is a deluxe edition, details as yet unknown. (And even the evil Sony doesn't use copy protection on their CDs anymore.)

Really? I recall that when it was originally released "12 SONGS", there was the standard version and another in a digipak that contained 2 bonus tracks. It annoyed me that neither version contained the lyrics, especially since this was a return to Neil's singer-songwriter days. The 2-disc version was released months later, if I'm not mistaken, and in addition to the extra music, included the lyrics in the booklet. I'm pretty sure it wasn't Neil's fault that Columbia/Sony used their copy protection software on the CD!

I believe the two disc version came out MONTHS later. The day it was released was when I bought the version with 2 extra songs. The two disc version came out with a "brown" cover while the original was "white". I think they did this to differentiate between the previous two, and the fact that the later version didnt have the copy protection on it...

Also, on Amazon there is a link so you can watch him performing one of the new songs.

I'd read a while back (maybe a year ago?) that Diamond & Rubin were recording a covers album similar to Rubin's Johnny Cash albums; perhaps this project is now officially "off" since covers seem to be popping up as bonus tracks, i.e. "To Make You Feel My Love", "Without Her" and the DVD-only "The Boxer"? Interesting...wonder how far they got!

I'm guessing there will be some good publicity on the way, since Neil is booked to do American Idol next week!

Just noticed that there are "Legacy Expanded Editions" of BEAUTIFUL NOISE and HOT AUGUST NIGHT II listed for release in Australia next week. Wonder what extras are included?

12 Songs also came out on vinyl but w/o an extra tracks and "Home" is getting the vinyl treatment as well. ( I believe w/o the extras again damnit!) But still having the vinyl is SO much better.
OMG I'm back

http://www.nme.com/news/neil-diamond/36567Neil Diamond: 'I want to follow up Johnny Cash at Glastonbury'
May 13, 2008
Neil Diamond wants to follow in Johnny Cash's footsteps with his Glastonbury performance.
The legendary singer, whose new Rick Rubin-produced album 'Home Before Dark' is set to top US charts, spoke about his eagerly awaited festival appearance, set to take place on the Pyramid Stage on June 29.
The veterans' Sunday slot was famously taken by Cash in 1994, around the time he had also had his career revived by Rubin's guidance.
Speaking about Cash, Diamond said: "Those are tough footsteps to follow in, but I think we'll have some fun. That's basically why I want to do it."
He added that he wanted to play Glastonbury because it was "the ultimate festival".
told BBC 6 Music: "I've heard about it for years and it just sounded right. It just sounded like, this time let's have some fun and play the Glastonbury festival and y'know, hope that we're not laughed out of the country."
Commenting on the potential Number One, he said: "I hope it happens. It's beyond exciting. It's groundbreaking for me after all these years to reach this point in my career. So I'm hoping that it actually does go to Number One. If it does I'll celebrate in a big way."

Here's hoping Diamond does make it to Number One. Much as I loved 12 SONGS, HOME BEFORE DARK seems even stronger, with subtle flourishes shading it a bit more. Both albums, though, could be a master class on songwriting -- it may have taken a while for Diamond to regain his focus, but he certainly seems a rejuvenated man under Rubin's guidance. I hope their collaboration continues to thrive! Now if only the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame would come a-knocking...
