I just finished reading this and I'm now officially a fan of the whole Superman/70s Legion concept. I turned off the part of my brain that worries about continuity and how everything fits (almost a requirement with any Legion story) and just went with it. Hell, even the Legion of Substitute Heroes were cool (in a ridiculously stupid way).

Did anyone else read this?

I thought it was Superboy and The Legion Of Superheroes.

I think you have to apply that mindset to any comic story, really. Just read it for the entertainment value.

Of course, this is coming from someone who used to really get hung up on the slightest continuity gaffe.

Matt's probably referring to the recent six-issue storyline in ACTION COMICS, which is a followup to the classic Legion's return in last year's "Lightning Saga" story in the JLA/JSA crossover.

I am, yes. Should have clarified. This does make me want to check out the old Legion stuff, though. "My" Legion is the post-Zero Hour team, and prior to this arc I hadn't really seen anything in this team's reappearance in continuity to interest me (aside from a few pages in The Lightning Saga thing where Superman is reminiscing).

BTW, this story isn't the end of Superman's involvement with the Legion. Last week they announced that Geoff Johns and George Perez will be doing a five issue mini-series this summer entitled FINAL CRISIS: LEGION OF THREE WORLDS.

So you like the post-Zero Hour team, huh? Maybe you should look at the poster above very carefully.

Now that I've read this storyline I'm much more interested in the Legion of Three Worlds book.

I read very few current comics, but I'm a huge fan of the classic Legion. I read the Lightning Saga, but I haven't read the Action storyline yet. (Johns' tendency for graphic violence in recent years is disappointing and a big turn-off.)

Matt, was there "Infinite Crisis"-level violence in the Action story?

Nothing that I'd put at that level. One character gets shot through the hand, but it's not done in a particularly graphic way (and they don't LOSE the hand, so that's a step up from IC) and another character gets beaten up later in the story, but it's also not especially graphic. No decapitations or limbs ripped off.

It's a tiny bit spoilery, but you should check out the Say It Backwards post about it.

I like the Christopher Reeve likeness on Supes.

Polar Boy disagrees.

While the costumes were 70ish, the state of the Substitute heroes was late 80ish, with Color Kid now being female (A Keith Giffen innovation), and Chlorophyll Kid is now talking to plants like a crazy guy.

I'm a fan of the post-ZH Legion as well, Matt, but like you I was won over by Johns' handling of this team and the (re)connection with Superman. Geoff Johns is truly one of the good ones, as far as I'm concerned.

Hey Mark-

Spoiler: show
That wasn't Color Kid. They made a reference to Ulu being in hiding after having been blinded by Earth Man.

I liked it too. Frank's characters did get a little "zombie-eyed" for me. It was a bit distracting. I think Crisis:Legion of 3 Worlds may be even more fun than the main event though. Really looking forward to that.

I think Rainbow Girl has had one appearance prior to the ACTION arc - presumably, Johns chose her because of how she fits into the concept of the emotional spectrum.

I hope Johns ends up doing an ongoing LoSH book when it's all said and done.
