Roast beef and turkey are favorites ... but I am kinda partial to pastrami-reuben sandwiches and good ol' corned-beef-reuben's too.

I like liverwurst a lot too.

Preferred breads? Rye, wheat, marble-rye, sourdough...

Jim

It's generally a toss-up between pastrami and roast beef. Today, pastrami wins out.

Is there such a thing as a bad R(e)uben? I can't think of one who isn't cool.

I went with salami, gotta support the Eye-talians. (I HATE when people pronounce it like that.)

My Mrs makes the 2nd best Reubens EVER!!
But I have to tell y'all a story about corned beef sandwich that was SOOOOOOO GOOD, BUT.....this will be disgusting.....I promise......
There was a little place called "The Country Boy Deli".....They had the BEST Pastrami Sammiches, and the BEST REUBENS in the entire western Hemisphere! These guys migrated from NYC to the Central Coast of California. They knew what was good!
Anyway, I took any excuse to go to the place for a Reuben, or a Pastrami Sammich. I liked to change up from time to time.
Anyway, one day I had been on the road ALL DAY. I needed to eat, and I needed a pit stop.....(Thats a 10-100 for those in the know!)
I pull into the lot, jump out of the company van, and head into the restaurant. (Right to the Ghonny)
I do my duty, and as I'm washing my hands I realize that I haven't eaten in like 9 hours, and I'm STARVED!!
THEN....... I hear a bumping from the stall next to me, and an older Greek man comes out....walks past me at the sink, and heads out of the door.
I don't think anything about it untill I line up to order, and I look back into the kitchen, and see the same guy at the grill!
I order my sammich, and watch, as the same guys pulls out a HUGE mound of pastrami and corned beef, saurkraut, and cheese, and piles it up to the ceiling on big slices of rye bread! (then he tosses on a garlic dill pickle that would make Ron Jeremy run away in shame...)
I had to make my choice at that point...........
Best Damn Sammich I had ever eaten!!!!!!

Then about a month later, they got shut down, and they never re-opened!

I WEEP for a sammich THAT good these days!

I picked Salami because there is nothing best than a well aged dry salami. Especially the kind that you find hanging wrapped only in paper with the white mold residue, not plastic, that continues to cure until you eat it. That means a chub of Gallo and not Columbus unless that's the only brand available.

But I also loves me some BLT with Avacado, Reuben with really sour rye, corned beef, pastrami, and sometimes even prosciutto with fresh greens and cheese (but you need to be in a real Italian Deli to find that on the menu).

Roast Beef for me, though I prefer turkey.

As for the tongue, my rule is to not eat food that can taste me back. ;-)

I would usually give the nod to Corned Beef, but I had a great Pastrami Reuben -- on Dark Rye with a Pickle and a side of Cole Slaw -- this past Friday that was to die for.

-- Uncle Rog
(did not actually die, just had a little gas from the Sauerkraut)
