Warners will release a "collectors edition" of the first, and arguably their best, Manassas album on 15th September. No more details at this moment.

I thought Manassas was the title of a Stephen Stills solo album.

as so many others do also.

manassas was a band, basically formed by stills and chris hillman with ace musicians all-around. their firs,t S/T album is considered by many to be a classic.

their second, called "down the road" wasn't even close in terms of sales or in terms of quality IMHO.

rumors have been circulating lately of a manassas reunion, supposedly hillman is trying to put the entire original band back together, but getting stills and dallas taylor might prove to be difficult. but i sure would love to hear it1

It was his group and self titled double vinyl album

Thanks for the heads up, I have been on a lookout for a CD replacement for my vinyl on this. Therefore I will hold off until this is released. As for the 2nd lp & last, it was good, more commerical but as Renny states not as good as the first which was a double lp to start no less.

I guess part of the reason I thought it was a solo album was because Stills' name appeared above the band's. I didn't realize Manassas was the name of the group.

of course, so do i.

hillman sings a couple tunes and wrote or co-wrote a couple more, but stills was the straw that stirred this drink!

I file Manassas under Stephen Stills, whom I in turn file under CSN - my filing is not always alphabetical, because I like the family trees part of filing.

Wonder if we'll see the Musikladen show as disc 2?

It will be interesting to see what unreleased music comes from the "Deluxe" edition release. There is quite a bit of live Manassas that has circulated on boots for awhile now.

I always thought it was Still's band...my favorite Stills LP. Fav track is the one that mentions Al "Blind Owl" Wilson.
I liked the second LP too.

Stored with my other Stills LP's and Still's CD's

For What It's Worth (I swear no pun intended!) I've always personally considered this a Stills album also.

Is this the first example of a "collectors edition" from Warners? I'm not aware of any others so not sure whether to expect a double cd, a single cd with a few extra tracks, improved packaging but no extras, or what.

The double CD format with live and studio extras as per the Deluxe Editions from Universal and Legacy Editions from Sony great. If "collectors edition" means that Warners/Rhino are also adopting that format, that is excellent news.

Manassas would be an excellent starting point, but I'd really love to see one of the Tower Of Power albums with Lenny Williams given the treatment.

The Joy Division remasters from Rhino were packaged "deluxe-style" with the plastic sleeves, as is the new Lemonheads reissue. Looks like a trend!

My copies of Manassas albums will always be filed under "S" with Stephen Stills' albums.

The upcoming Otis Blue: Otis Redding Sings Soul is also a Collector's Edition as well.

Oh, boy!!!! However you cut it--solo album or group (I view it as a fully functioning band led by Stills), this is one of my all-time favorite recordings and I'm hoping this means it'll be an expanded format as we've been speculating!!

I would love to see a full reunion, but I'd happily settle for a Stills/Hillman re-teaming. Their harmonies were beautiful and their varied musical interests and abilities really complimented each other.

Thanks for this Jimbo. Not being a particular fan of Joy Division or the Lemonheads I'm not familier with this format but have checked the Joy Division releases out and they do indeed to be a Warners/Rhino equivilent of the Deluxe Editions and Legacy Editions. An excellent development!
