Yeah, it's like AC/DC carrying on without Bon Scott. How dare they?

Queen was one of my favorite groups growing up, and i still listen to them a lot. I got a chace to see their last tour in the US in 1982, and it was so powerful that i was brought to tears during "We are the champions."
I think Brian May and Roger Taylor are great, but i can't bring myself to think of this as Queen, and i won't even listen. I say Boo!

I'm glad May and Taylor aren't retiring, and PR is a great singer, so I look forward to hearing what they'll come up with. But this band is not Queen. Freen, maybe; Queen, never.

Whatever the hell it is, these guys on stage rock. Nothing else matters. Also happens to be their job.

i agree about it not being queen, just as journey with steve perry is not journey. just call it something else and play all the old songs that you want, just as long as you wrote, or co-wrote, them.
i don't understand why they don't do that, do think people won't know who they are?

Guys: Its ISN'T called Queen, it is called Queen + Paul Rodgers which makes it quite clear it's not Queen as we all know it (and which it can't be of course). They were fanatstic live when I saw them and Rodgers is the best voice ever (and Freddie was the best frontman ever), so give it a chance. It will never be like the original days and it's not even trying to. I'm glad they're carrying on, even though I too, have reservations about the whole thing. But hey, it's their band and they're not deceiving anybody. I miss Freddie badly though-there will never be another like him. Ever. As always, if you don't want to listen to it-don't!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7306006.stm Queen plot return with new album Queen are to release their first studio album for 13 years - and their first without the vocals of Freddie Mercury. The Cosmos Rocks will feature ex-Free singer Paul Rodgers, who has replaced Mercury in the band's live shows. Queen's last album, Made in Heaven, came out in 1995 and featured material written and recorded by Mercury before his death in 1991. The band have also announced a Queen and Paul Rodgers 14-nation European tour, starting in September. It will include UK dates in Nottingham, Glasgow, London, Cardiff, Birmingham and Liverpool. They will also play in Russia, Poland, Germany, Belgium, France, Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain, Hungary, Serbia, the Czech Republic and Austria. Guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and Rodgers wrote the new album in late 2007 and early this year. It will be released on 1 September. Bassist John Deacon, who retired from the music business in the late 1990s, will not take part in the tour.

I completely understand what you're saying but it comes off as though it's Paul Roger leading Queen – not that it's an entirely new group. Also, their playing mostly Queen songs in concert signifies, to me, that this is Paul Roger leading Queen.
To me, calling this Queen is like calling The Firm "Led Zepplin" or Bad English being called "Journey." I'm glad at least Schon and Cain were sensible enough to know that John Waite + Journey = New Group and it would never work as "Journey."
I would be much more excited to hear these same guys explore new territory and start a new group with a completely new name – not pretend to be something they aren't. IMO PR leading "Queen" is like putting a square peg in a round hole. I'm a huge fan of everyone involved and If they want to go out under a new name and play a couple of Queen songs a few Firm tunes and some Bad Company stuff (along with new material) then it would be great. But that is not what they're doing.

Many bands change personnel and keep the name...Van Halen, The Who, KISS, ELO, shit even The Beatles did it with Pete Best. In this case, Queen had lost their "voice" when Freddie passed away. No one can replace him, and I know they are not trying to. A new name would be the proper thing to do.

Very true, the only difference is that none of the bands you list (besides VH) lost their lead singer. I believe it worked for VH because (A) it's their name!, (B) it was a complete departure from their sound with DLR, (C) 5150 was put out only a year after DLR left, and (D) 5150 was an incredible album. I am not as upset that they're carrying on as "Queen" as I am that they have a new lead singer that is so completely different from FM.

Personally I'd be more open-minded about a new Queen album if the lead singer were George Michael. (And I love Paul Rodgers' work ... just don't think he sounds like "Queen".)

Right f-in ON!!! Here's my Maxim-style record review (the kind that gets done before I even hear the album): It's suck-tastic!

I had actually posted my reply above on another board and mentioned how I thought GM would be a much better fit (or a singer like him). The Five Live CD he put out years ago from the FM tribute concert highlighted how good he could be with Queen. He would be someone who would fit well with the old material while being able to take them in new directions. Too bad he's nuts....

I'm right on with Linda-my friends who are diehard Queen fans always thought if anyone was to do it, it should be George Michael and I always agreed. In fact, there were rumours about that for years in the 90s. George has a killer voice, he's quite flamboyant, and, hey, he's gay-so how perfect would that have been? He was easily the best singer at the Freddie tribute concert. At one point, it looked like it was Robbie Williams to be the new singer, but the guys in Queen thought he was too young and excitable. Whatever-that would've been a damn good choice too. Their collaboration on "We Will Rock You" (I think that was it) in the awful movie "A Knight's Tale" sucked, but Robbie did a good job singing. I think Paul Rodgers is the best voice ever, and even I feel he is not quite right for Queen. But the live show was great and changed my mind.

This might be fun!
If it rocks and with Paul Rodgers how can it not, I'm there.
I love Brian May's guitar work so this will be a must buy for me.

Too bad GM would rather hang out in parks and mens rooms instead of rocking.
