"The Dave Clark Five:The Hits" is now available for download at I Tunes. It's a 28 track collection, and includes 2 unreleased tracks and a 28 page booklet. A retail release will follow. I couldn't find mention of any remastering, or much more info.
Hopefully, this is the start of much bigger things.

CD details added by Linda:

Product Description
2008 collection from the '60s Pop/Rock quintet, their only official 'hits' compilation available on the market for over a decade. Before The Rolling Stones, The Dave Clark Five were seen as being The Beatles most serious rivals. With their hit 'Glad All Over' knocking 'I Want to Hold Your Hand' off the number one spot. DC5's own unique brand of music sold in excess of 100 million records. They were the first English group to tour the United States, spearheading the British Invasion. During their first two years in the U.S., they scored no less than fifteen consecutive Top 20 hits, more than anyone except The Beatles. They took the world by storm and helped change the Rock scene, blasting hit after hit over the world's radio airwaves.

Bigger things happened in 1993, when Dave Clark oversaw and remastered the excellent Hollywood Records 2-CD retrospective, "The History of Dave Clark 5". It's long OOP, but I got mine for about $50, which isn't bad for an OOP 2-CD set.

Wonderful news. I had a feeling the The DC5's indcution into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame would lead Dave Clark to put the band's catalog back into circulation.

Dave Clark was quite eloquent in his acceptance speech last night at the R&RHOF dinner. I'm glad he realized he had to have something on the market at this time. I still ain't holding my breath for a full catalog rollout.

I was inspired to dig out History of and the import Glad All Over Again comps for spins at work today.

They had hits in the UK and Europe, but I don't think they were the second best-selling group here, that I think would have been The Hollies or maybe The Rolling Stones. Anyway, it was quite a revelation for me to sit through the two History CD's, as I only really remembered "Glad all Over". I can hear why they were huge in the States and I'm wondering if perhaps the rest of the album tracks are anywhere near as strong as what I've heard here. Fabulous stuff and fantastic, warm sound!

The DC5 is one of those groups I missed growing up. I'm not even sure I have one CD from them.

So a new Greatest Hits package would be welcome for me.

Tom Hanks made a big deal about Dave Clark never signing away his publishing, but I thought it seemed odd that even though he owns the publishing, no product is on the market.

This has been one of the most puzzling and infuriating aspects of the decison not to release the DC5 catalogue to CD. Unless there's some well-hidden fact, he only continues to hurt himself most of all. Dave's relationship with the other members appears to be good-Mike Smith never had, at least in public, anything negative to say about Dave.
I would say that on each album there are 2-3 songs that are close to being as good as the singles. As was normal for most bands recording during that period, there is some filler. I remember thinking, as I listened to this stuff growing up, that Dave Clark Five records sounded better than any other rock and roll records. They were certainly the loudest.

Late last summer I went into a new/used CD shop here in Greater Cleveland, Ohio. Browsing through the "C" section I come come across this collection. I look at it and can't believe it is in a store. The CD's are mint and the booket is a little rough in the corners from being pulled in and out the wrong way. It was no bootleg and the price on it was an unbelieveable $9.00!!! I went to the counter and asked this goth looking girl if this was correct and she said yes. My eyes got real big and I immediately bought it and walked out. To this day I still do not how or why it would wind up in a store used. I will never part with this as it has too good of a story behind it in addition to being a great collection. Now I hope the whole catalog will come out with the induction into the RRHoF. Dave has to see the demand and the uproar/outrage over this great music not being out. I don't understand how he is making any money.

I just did a search for Dave Clark 5 on Amazon. While "The Hits" isn't mentioned, they had at least 4 different DC5 bootleg cd's. I'm surprised Amazon is being that lax in the current climate.

Joan Jett did a great version of BITS & PIECES at the ceremony. Hard to believe it has been 26 years since she covered it on her I LOVE ROCK-n-ROLL album.

Thought I'd add that I just bought a fairly Mint copy of the HISTORY OF comp for $3. That doesn't mean that copies are littering the landscape in the midst of that iTunes release. It's mostly a pleasant reminder that there are used record stores out there that aren't pricing everything against eBay and Amazon.

$3.00 is a steal for the "History of..." set! Nice find!
The last time the record store where my son works had it they were selling for $19.99, which I thought was fair. E bayers want $40.00-$50.00 bucks.

I just received a new release list from a UK wholesaler which shows "Dave Clark 5 The Hits" set for 10/13 release in the UK.

Yep, I've added pre-order details for the CD to the first post, although it shows 27 tracks rather than the 28 which Anthony said the iTunes version had.

Now...if we could only find out — officially — what happened to the Paul Shaffer/Mike Smith Benefit concert DVD that was listed on Amazon and then discontinued before it was released...

I have "History", but it's all in mono. There are lots of bootleg stereo CD's around (I just saw some this weekend at a record convention), so I'd sure love to see an official stereo release...

The Rock N Beat Stereo has excellent sound, it's better then the Hollywood.

Hopefully this will solve that........

Collectors Choice Music is promoting "The Hits" as remastered by Dave Clark. "History" was remastered by Clark. I emailed CCM and asked if this was new remastering, or the same as History. CCM's reply: They don't know. Yeesh.

The CD removes the tracks"Everybody Get Together" and "Every American Citizen", neither of which is any great loss, and adds the track "Good Old Rock and Roll Medley", which is not included in the iTunes package.
I'm still holding out hope for official releases of the original albums, but this knucklehead continues to wait, and wait, and wait...

"Good Old Rock and Roll" was a Top 10 UK hit for the DC5. In fact, it's the same song/medley that Cat Mother & the All Night News Boys took into the US Top 20 in 1969.

Anyone buy "The Hits" and want to share their opinion? I still can't find out if this is a newly remastered comp by Clark or if it just uses his "History" remastering.
