The Raveonettes Bring 'Lust' To Vice

December 06, 2007, 11:50 AM ET Michael D. Ayers, N.Y.
Out since last month internationally, the new Raveonettes album, "Lust Lust Lust," will arrive in North America Feb. 19 via Vice. The new edition will include to bonus cuts, "My Heartbeat's Dying" and "Honey, I Never Had You."
"I wanted to make a very simple, minimal album with sparse instrumentation and a very intense vibe," vocalist/guitarist Sune Rose Wagner tells Billboard.com. There were nearly 100 songs in the mix at one point, but the selection process sped up dramatically once the title song was written.
"Once I hit upon that song, everything was easy from there," Wagner says. "I just wrote the album around that one song. It took about 2-3 weeks."
The Raveonettes' prior album, "Pretty in Black," boasted guest appearances from Ronnie Spektor, Maureen Tucker and Martin Rev, but there are no outside contributors this time around. "Those people are pretty hard to top," Wagner admits.
"Lust Lust Lust" also sees the group shying away from the more acoustic, surf-tinged vibe of "Pretty In Black," and instead steers closer to the fuzzed-out distorted sounds of its debut record, "Chain Gang of Love."
New songs have been a part of the group's live show for about four months now, and Wagner says "the reaction has been phenomenal." Fans can get a heavy dose of the new material when the group opens for Blonde Redhead next month in New York.
This Danish duo have re-emerged with an album that perfectly distills the band's 60s noir-pop songcraft and fuzz-guitar clamor into a melodic, sensuous voyage through the layers of desire. Showcasing a broader stylistic pallete and a newly cinematic sense of drama, on [title]"Lust Lust Lust"[/title], the band retains the unique, compelling combination of sexy pop songs and rock 'n' roll urgency that have made them critics' darlings. Features two North America-only bonus tracks. Already dubbed "one of the first great new albums coming out in 2008" - The Tripwire. 1. Aly, Walk With Me 4:58 2. Hallucinations 2:59 3. Lust 3:37 4. Dead Sound 3:33 5. Black Satin 2:39 6. Blush 3:17 7. Expelled From Love 3:14 8. You Want The Candy 3:07 9. Blitzed 3:02 10. Sad Transmission 3:08 11. With My Eyes Closed 3:31 12. The Beat Dies 3:43 13. My Heartbeat's Dying (Bonus Track) 2:59 14. Honey, I Never Had You (Bonus Track) 3:13 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0011HF61O/?tag=imwan-20

The Raveonettes sell out LA's El Rey Theatre

Mar 5, 2008
The Raveonettes highlighted new material during their sold-out show at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles last night (March 4).
Sharin Foo and Sune Rose Wagner took the stage along with a drummer to loud cheers from an adoring crowd.
Bathed in multi-coloured spotlights, they launched into 'Hallucinations' from their new album 'Lust Lust Lust' and ran through several new tracks including 'Dead Sound' and 'Aly, Walk With Me'.
"We have a new album that just came out a few weeks ago," Foo told the audience. "Now we're gonna kill the good mood by playing 'Expelled From Love'.
Nearly an hour into their 80-minute set, Foo said, "Now it's time to play some old music," as they segued into 'Attack Of The Ghost Riders' and the crowd went wild.
The Raveonettes played:
'Hallucinations' 'Dead Sound' 'That Great Love Sound' 'Let's Rave On' 'Lust' 'Red Tan' 'Love In A Trashcan' 'Expelled From Love' 'Attack of the Ghost Riders' 'You Want The Candy' 'Black Satin' 'Blush' 'French Disko' 'Aly, Walk With Me'
The band will continue their US tour with shows tonight (March 5) at San Francisco's Independent, Friday (March 7) at Portland's Doug Fir Lounge, and next week at Austin's South by Southwest Festival.

This be good stuff. Very scungy and rough and sexual; lots of attitude and skrieking guitars. I've never seen them live, but I bet they put on a killer show.
