The subject comes up from time to time when talking about the state of the industry, here and elsewhere, so I figured I'd share.
Just returned from a Ye Olde Reading Faire at Lil' Taft's school. Bunch of giveaways when you first walked in.
Among them was a gigantic stack of Iron Man Adventures comics. Pretty sure they were provided by Scholastic. Other comics were available for purchase in the book fair (i.e. "buy some books") section.
That is all.
Have a nice night.

They handed out Iron Man Adventures at my kids school about a month back. There was such a demand they ran out. At the back of the book was a "continue this story at marvelkids.com" ad, and my kids spent an hour or so there after school.

I've mentioned Diary of a Wimpy Kid here before, the free online sortagraphicnovel at funbrain.com. They had TONS of copies of that. I started to point it out to Lil' Taft, but he knew it already. "Yeah, the wimpy kid. I know about that. My friend Soandso has all of that. He loves it."
That was neat.
(Lil' Taft finished reading Bone for the sixth time yesterday. I only got it for him a year ago!)

Lil' E is reading Bone for the 6th or 7th time, too. It's Bubble's copy, but E has claimed it. Also read Rose. That's my boy!

Scholastic's been offering Marvel digests and such at its book fairs for years. I bought my first "Spider-Girl" digest at one of them.
There was quite a bit of comics promotion for younger readers going on at the ALA conference in Washington D.C. last summer. Most publishers that offer wide ranges for children seem to have comics offerings of some kind now.

I applaud the use of comics in school to help to encourage youngsters to read.

Me too. My love for comics at an early age is the main reason I was reading a few levels above my fellow classmates. Plus I knew what invulnerable meant before anyone else in the first grade.
