You know, I LOVED the original Star Trek series and movies. I used to annoy my friends with things like "the top 100 reasons why Captain Kirk is better than Captain Picard."
But after hearing the man depreciate his roles in Trek and whine "oh poor me, people won't leave me alone because I'm famous," my respect has dwindled.
It's a lot like Tom Cruise. Sometimes stars would be better off if they could just keep quiet and leave the public in ignorant bliss.
Everybody talks about Shatners' versions of Mr Tambourine Man and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Heck, a few brave souls will mention Leonard Nimoy and his riffs on Proud Mary and Ruby. However, nobody (and I mean NOBODY) ever mentions the greatest piece of work that Leonard Nimoy ever did...
THE BALLAD OF BILBO BAGGINS!!!!!
Really. If someone could find an mp3 or something of it online, they would do well to educate the generations (both Classic and Next) on what real singing is all about!!
Bilbo.....Bilbo Baggins. Bravest little Hobbit of them all! Yeah, and the video is cool too! Search for it..........it's worth it! (or let me know and........)
Here's the long-lost "tribute" single to William Shatner which was released in 1985 by The Jurassics. This used to be a staple on college radio back in the day:
More obscure yet are the Jurassics, two guys known as Jet Screamer (another Jetsons reference) and Surfer Joe Atomic who used two very fuzzy guitars and a very loud drum macine to create this open letter taking the original Starship Captain to task ("But now they call you Shatner, or worse, T.J. Hooker"). They then stuck it in a very DIY photocopy sleeve, mailed it out to a few fanzines, and disappeared.
