Twentieth Century Fox is sinking its claws into May 1, 2009, for the release of Hugh Jackman starrer "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," which director Gavin Hood begins shooting later this year.
"Wolverine" is expected to feature many other mutants -- some new to the film franchise and some from one or more of the three "X-Men" films. Liev Schreiber is reportedly in final talks to take on the role of a younger version of nemesis William Stryker, played by Brian Cox in "X2."
Plot sounds sketchy right now:
Pic explores the claw-wielding character Wolverine's violent and romantic past, and his complex relationship with Victor Creed and the ominous Weapon X program, as well as his encounters with other mutants.
Hood will start shooting in Australia before moving to New Zealand and, later, to New Orleans. Latter location is a clue that the storyline might include New Orleans-based character Gambit, who is able to make objects explode and was a professional thief before joining the X-Men.

Remember how Ryan Reynolds always wanted to play Deadpool? Looks like he’s getting his wish.
As reported on AICN Monday, Variety confirmed that Ryan Reynolds has joined the cast of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. They also mention that Taylor Kitsch will play Gambit, and will.i.am from The Black Eyed Peas will play … someone Wraith. The Blob is rumored to be appearing in the film as well.
They join Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Liev Schreiber (Sabretooth), Danny Huston (William Stryker) and Lynn Collins (Silver Fox) in the film, which is set to open May 1, 2009.

I have suggested Liev Schreiber for a number of comic-book-related roles over the past few years...but Sabretooth? Seriously, effin' SABRETOOTH?? Terrible idea.
And in other news, I hate Gambit and Deadpool.
Looks like I won't be clamoring to see this movie.

I think Gambit and Deadpool are just cameos, not major characters.
I like the casting of Schrieber as Sabretooth. He's a big, imposing guy, and he showed in the first two Scream films that he can pull off scary. He's far better than Triple H.

I'm not really interested and my interest is waning.
I liked the first two X-Men movies, though I wasn't huge on their Wolverine.
Seeing a movie of Wolverine does not appeal to me.
Actually, that's true of any X-Men solo movie, what's the point?
I predict that this superhero movie fad doesn't have too much further to go before it calls it quits.
Or I could just be in a pessimistic mood, the fad survived Elektra and Catwoman, and it looks like it's survived X-Men 3 and Spider-Man 3, so maybe it'll keep on trucking.

I'm pre-emptively adding this to the Index.
What Index?
This is a reference to the JBF, and Byrne's list of 'forbidden' movies...some of which have yet to be released, but are still not to be mentioned on "The Forum".

Deadpool is definitely a cameo
Gambit is someone the X-Men producer had wanted to include in the last two movies. I might add also a favorite of those who grew up on the very popular X-Men cartoon and video games of that era, and a particular fav among female X-Fans. I believe as Matt said he's also more or less a cameo but perhaps slightly more than Deadpool.
