I can't wait for this. I saw her perform many of these songs live a couple of months ago. Just wonderful.

Disc-and-a-half of covers, and we still don't get any of the commercial tracks (e.g., "Hanging on the Telephone", "How Can I Tell You", "Somewhere")?!?
And "Naked" was on the first covers album, so it will be interesting to see if this is a live/alternate version.

Naked is likely a full band version, but I have no idea whether or not it is live.
She includes a new song on this collection..."Song To Bobby"....and I think it is quite amazing. I've known of her love for Bob Dylan, but this song is just stunning.

I notice that iTunes has a pre-order bonus track, "Could We". Also, the initial press release included "Dark End Of The Street" and "Fortunate Son" in the track listing, but they were replaced by other tracks. Wonder if they will be exclusives at BestBuyCircuitCityTargetWalmartBordersblahblahblah...

"Could We" is a track off her last album, but maybe she redid it with her current touring band(?)

a friend of mine had found me a download of this a few weeks back with a total playing time of 38:50. to me, it seemed as if some of the songs faded before they were done. on saturday, i got a copy of the "real" cd, and it turns out the total playing time is 41:38. believe it or not, this roughly 3 extra minutes spread out over the cd makes a difference to several of the cuts (aretha, lost someone, woman left lonely, blue).

I heard that the faded version was leaked by her record company in an effort for people to preview the album without actually having the entire thing. I don't know whether or not that's really true, but it makes as much sense as anything else.

I've never heard her before. I occasionally get emails with an "industry jukebox" where retailers can hear new cd's over the internet. My first impression is that this is really good. You can stream it here: http://www.almightyjukebox.com/index_catpower.phpI suspect the streams are lossy, but it's quite listenable. I'm ASSUMING that this is her new cd, it may be an internet best of, or......... It's her brand new album, Geff. In fact I moved your post into the pre-existing thread for this release. ~ Linda

Although it wasn't my intention, I got the deluxe Cat Power at Best Buy with the Target price match of $7.99. I didn't realize it was the deluxe edition until I was at the register, but even though it required a manager approval, they gave it to me for $7.99.

For anyone who may be curious about seeing one of her shows....I saw her twice last year and was blown away both times.

Yeah, I think the experience of recording/touring The Greatest and working with more established players means the old days of Chan having frequent meltdowns and killing shows are largely in the past...

Plus I read that she had gotten herself clean and sober, which has to help. I was a bit concerned about her when I saw her late last year. She didn't seem quite herself and she kept walking off the stage to drink water, but we all realized quickly that she was just sick. I was front/center of the stage and she was constantly leaning out over me and coughing. I was sick for 2 days afterwards. Yet if I had to do it over again I wouldn't change a thing.......besides pumping myself full of medicine before the show.
