Despite his more famous roles, I'll always remember him from 2010 best for some odd reason. RIP.

Awww...no.
One of my all time favorite actors from my all time favorite movie.
This makes me so sad I can't even tell you.

A great actor. I liked him in 2010, too.

He was fantastic in JAWS and 2010 and MARATHON MAN and THE RAINMAKER. Hell, I even watched a few episodes of that SEAQUEST show just because he was on it.
Just a terrific actor. I will miss seeing him.
I mean, seriously. Look at what he he does in this scene with his eyes. That is an ACTOR, my friends.

I am absolutely gutted by this.
Roy Scheider as Chief Brody was my biggest childhood hero next to Captain Kirk.
I just watched Jaws for about the 200th time the other night. As I watched it, I once again found myself marveling at the acting in that film, but most of all, at the subtleties of Scheider's performance. Pure brilliance.
A great Scheider role that should not be overlooked is his role in All That Jazz, a semi-autobiographical film about Bob Fosse, in which he puts on a brilliant performance that earned him an oscar nomination if I am not mistaken.
Another interesting bit of trivia: Because of a contractual obligation to do Jaws 2, Scheider had to pass on the lead role in The Deer Hunter, which went to Robert Deniro instead.

My most memorable Roy Scheider movie role for me was in Blue Thunder. Great actor.

Rest in peace - as I mentioned in another thread, I will be watching JAWS tomorrow night in memory of him.
