I'd forgotten one of my all time favorite guilty pleasures -- Uncle Buck, starring John Candy.

It's on Starz right now and itsa gewd. I love the way Buck is an apparent ne'er do well, but he has a heroic heart and would do anything to protect the kids.

Love for this or any other John Candy movie out there?

The best is Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, even though it's more a Steve Martin movie.

Here's a quarter, take the bus downtown, and have a rat gnaw that thing off your face.

I have never seen UNCLE BUCK.

PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES is very funny.

That is all.

You simply must. It's sweet. I'm talking last-scene-of-planes-trains-sweet.

Child actors tend to annoy me. I understand that there are several child actors scurrying about UNCLE BUCK.

Just the Home Alone kid, one cute sister, and the older teenage sister is the one who went on to be a wife on "Yes, Dear." She was also the good singer on Mr. Holland's Opus.

It's not too kiddy. It's a little bit bawdy for kids. That Uncle Buck, he's a bad boy.

Jay is bringing me around by saying all the right things.

He should be a lawyer or something.

So telling that I find the "last-scene-of-planes-trains" the most boring part of the movie. :) I usually quit watching right after Neil Page goes back to the subway station and finds Del so I can avoid hearing that horrible song and schmaltzy stuff.

Hey, I said guilty pleasure. And John Hughes is the master of that stuff. One of the reasons it seems so schmaltzy is because of all the imitation.

Best smchaltz ever? Eric Stoltz running after Mary Stuart Masterson in the end of Some Kind of Wonderful. Same music. Same walking.

Man, that movie was good. But it wasn't really a guilty pleasure, because it was kind of hip at the time. I'm the age of those characters.

Did anyone ever see the short lived TV series that spun off of Uncle Buck?

Tragically, I caught one episode of that, yes.

I too love SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL. I in fact prefer it to PRETTY IN PINK, the film from which it was cloned and gender-reversed.

John Hughes, it should be noted, directed neither of these films.

Jean Louisa Kelly might be the reason that I liked "Uncle Buck," "Mr Holland's Opus" AND "Yes Dear." (OK, I admit it, it's the ONLY reason I watched "Yes Dear.")

Actually "Uncle Buck" is my favorite John Candy movie. It's got humor and plenty of heart as well.

Not really a fan of John Candy characters, but I do like Uncle Buck. A lot of funny bits (especially the interrogation scene with Macaulay Culkin's character and the scenes with "Bug") to go along with Buck trying to prove himself to his girlfriend, sister-in-law, and the kids. And it's done in a way that isn't sappy. Oh, and then there's Marrrcie.

Who's Harry Crumb? was my favorite John Candy movie as a kid. I'm sure it hasn't aged well, but I probably watched it about 10 or 15 times when I was younger.

"Ever heard of a ritual killing? You gnaw on her face in public like that again and you'll be one."

That movie is a primer on how to parent teenaged daughters.

Even as a kid, I found that one just ok. Like Planes Trains and Automobiles.

But Hughes wrote and produced both, and they had the same director. Clearly a Hughesy vibe.
