I sometimes download their podcasts when I need to take a long trip. These guys are pretty good. I prefer their interviews over their reviews.

From time to time, depending on their guest or the book of the month. I've never really listened regularly; their normal shows tends to meander too much for my taste, and they do so many each week it's total overload. I don't need four hours of that stuff!
I like their book of the months and usually listen, and when they have a good guest (or decent topic) I'll grab that episode.

I was stunned to find the them highly critical of the Dark Phoenix Saga, nickpicking ridiculously over minor points and comparing the story to far inferior X-Men stories of the past 15 years. These kids really have no idea of context, of how groundbreaking this tale was in changing not just team comics, but all comics.
It's odd listening to the interviewers dis a comic or creator, then welcome that creator for an interview, and then after the interview dis him and the comic again.
Paul Pope was interesting and, I think, verifies that this podcast is at its best when the interviewees dominate and the amatuer interviewers just sit back and let them wander.

I used to listen, but it seemed (and I can't pinpoint exactly when) that they reached a point where they got caught up in their own hype and the tone of the show changed. I've not listened in a long time.

I listen to this show. But, it has gone through some changes as of late and is not as entertaining as it used to be. The creators of the show are not on it. Bryan Deemer has taken a break from the show and Peter Rios has left the show altogether. Pants is not nearly as good a show runner as Rios was.

Peter Rios's departure is a definite "jump the shark" moment.

Murd is the most interesting of the current geeks. Jamie D is okay. Pants doesn't have that much to say that is worthwhile. The other guys I can't even keep straight.

Murd is incredibly fun to listen to. He's probably the most intensely geeky of the geeks. The "Best of Murd" clip-show is LOL-inducing.
Jamie D's voice has always bugged me. It is not a good voice for radio/podcasting.
Rios, Deemer and Murd were the ones that kept the show lively. But Rios was the glue.

Deemer, besides you know leaving his own show, seems tired of comics. Rios did great interviews and was the least geeky. Well, he was geeky in his own very special way.
Did you listen to their podcast about the Avengers movie? It was kind of sad. Jamie D had to yell at the other geeks.
I like when Uncle Sal shows up. That is always lively.

I like when Uncle Sal shows up. That is always lively. Heh, didn't listen to the Avengers. Why did he yell at them? They were all bitching about the 3D and other things at the onset of the show and he yelled, "Its an AVENGERS MOVIE. IT WAS AWESOME. WHAT THE F IS WRONG WITH YOU ALL?" (Or something like that.) Deemer, via phone, complained that the movie spent too much time "making the team". He thought that wasn't necessary. He sounded kinda dumb. They did gush much more over TDKR.

Weird, considering how much they've gushed over movies much, much worse than the Avengers. I guess Jamie D does have a good point. Deemer has a strong presence and is often funny, but he definitely isn't bright. At least not as an art critic. Have you been there for those episodes were he'll go on a tear about how he has no interest in subtext, symbolism, allusion, etc.? He completely rejects any reading of stuff beyond the surface, and somehow has convinced himself that it's an "insult" to writers and artists to do any kind of deep reading of any piece of art.

I like Deemer, but you are so accurate regarding Deemer's purposeful inability to have anything thoughtful to say about comics as art.

Perhaps it is time for a new Comic Geek podcast. Perhaps ... an IMWAN podcast?

I know it is kind of late to comment on this, but man, it was sad when Jamie D died.
But, his death seemed to rejuvenate CGS. Rios and Pants come back more. Even Deemer as come back for an occasional show. I also enjoy the guy from Wild Pig Comics. Other than his obnoxious laugh, I really enjoy his participation.
And, who doesn't enjoy Murd's reading of OHTMU?

I haven't listened in a while. I had no idea Jamie D passed away, though the last few episodes that I caught did mention him being sick. That's sad to hear.
