One of my all-time favorite bands are finally releasing their first album since 1983! I saw them with NIN in 2006 and the new songs were excellent. Shame it seems the old divisivness has returned and they won't be continuing after this. At least this will be a nice parting gift for fans. From Billboard.com:

Bauhaus Bowing Out With New Album

December 04, 2007, 1:55 PM ET

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
The good news for Bauhaus fans: the group is eyeing a March 4 release for "Going Away White," its first studio album since 1983. The bad news: there will be no further activity from the legendary goth band, who reunited in 2005 for the Coachella festival and later toured the world.

"We were getting along really well, but there was an incident that occurred," drummer Kevin Haskins tells Billboard.com, declining to elaborate further. "Some of us just felt that we didn't want to carry on as a working unit."

As such, "Going Away White," which the band is releasing digitally via iTunes and on CD via its own Bauhaus Music imprint through Redeye Distribution, will close the book on Bauhaus. Haskins, guitarist Daniel Ash, bassist David J and vocalist Peter Murphy recorded the album last year after entering the studio "with nothing prepared," according to Haskins.

"I was concerned because history most of the time has proved that when groups reform and record, it doesn't work out," he says. "We all decided, let's just give it a go and see if it's working.

What emerged were songs Haskins says stay true to the original Bauhaus spirit, including "Adrenaline" and "Endless Summer of the Damned," which were performed during a summer 2006 tour with Nine Inch Nails.

"Now, there's a little bit of an empty feeling because we can't tour with it," Haskins admits. "All the same, it's something we're very proud of, and we feel a lot of people will be interested to hear it."

Bauhaus man discusses goth legends' final album

Jan 30, 2008

Legendary goth rockers Bauhaus are gearing up to release their first album in 24 years, which bassist and co-songwriter David J said will be the band's final recording.

'Go Away White' is due out on March 10 and features original members Peter Murphy, David J, Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins.

"Our chemistry was so volatile we actually split up," David J told NME.COM. "The record definitely feels like a final statement."

David J said that the band had several "personality clashes", but were able to channel their explosive energy into their music.

"Our music was a way of venting -- it's very expressive," he said.

The bassist explained that the band began discussing the idea of recording a new album when they were rehearsing for their 2005 Coachella Festival performance.

"After Coachella we put in on the back burner and worked on new songs whenever the opportunity presented itself," he said.

"We snatched time between tours and then we spent 18 days in the studio doing rough mixes."

The band had intended to re-record and edit some of the tracks, but ultimately decided to go with their first takes. "We realised they had a raw quality that we really liked," David J explained.

All four members of the band helped to write the album's lyrics, and frontman Murphy pinned them to the wall of the studio and chose the words that fit best with the music.

The band recorded the album in an Ojai, California studio where the atmosphere was "explosive and volatile, which is constructive and destructive," said J. "The album is all about rebirth. It's a musical conversation when language is not up to it."

David J is also working on a musical play about Edie Sedgwick, which debuts in Los Angeles in March, as previously reported.

David J's other seminal band, Love And Rockets, are set to headline this year's Coachella Festival on April 27.

I really like this disc. Amazing how much they've changed over the years, but this is so cool, just to hear a new Bauhaus album after all this time. "Adrenalin" rocks and is even better than I remembered it from the tour with NIN in 2006. The opener "Too Much 21st Century" is a great way to start. "Dog's A Vapour" is the same track that appeared on the Heavy Metal 2000 soundtrack back in 2000. It's still very Goth-oriented, but they did not rest on their laurels here-this is updated for the now and the real deal. This will be one of my favorites this year, I already know it. Very Bowie-ish at times, but then, that's no surprise!
I actually found this at Best Buy-that was a surprise.
