Thanks, Eddie. That's the tracklisting from the vinyl version which was released last year ~ the CD is supposed to include 4 additional tracks.

I have been getting into a major Philly thing lately. I can say that of all of the different issues and masterings I've heard, no one gets the mastering sound of Philadelphia International Records better than Tom Ruff (who remastered much of the mid-to-late 90's Sony/Legacy PIR stuff, but is no longer affiliated with Sony, unfortunately).

I also love the sound of some of the Demon/Edsel PIR releases currently available on import.

Mark Wilder has a pretty good feel too, but the stuff I have that was remastered by Joe Palmaccio sounds sterile to me.

All you need to do is listen to the Philly Sound boxed set mastered by Tom Ruff to understand what I mean.

On the Conquer The World comp, what specific years does this cover? If the majority of the material covers from basically the beginning up to '74, then I'm in for this. Palmaccio's masterings always murders my ears.

I'm in for Conquer the World, but not the Gamble/Huff Greatest Hits. Got all that stuff already. Though, shouldn't they have put "TSOP" as Track 1 on that comp? Makes sense to me...

I wish THE SOUND OF PHILADELPHIA had turned out to be a real in-depth Gamble & Huff collection like the folks at Ace might produce, but as a primer (what I'm assuming it's intended to be) it looks decent enough, and the rarities compilation should sate folks like us. Hopefully these will sell and more PIR compilations will be on the way from Legacy.

Cool-being 10 minutes from Philly my whole life I grew up hearing a ton of this stuff and there's so much quality to a lot of it. Me & Mrs. Jones by Billy Paul, The O Jays, Lou Rawls, Teddy Pendergrass and The Intruders were always favorites of mine.

Based on your post, I went searching and found a used copy of The Philly Sound today for twenty bucks. I look forward to listening to it!
