The second one interests me more. Reminds me of the thick 20th anniversary issue.

Yeah, right. Ten years from now they're going to update it and I'm gonna have to buy the whole thing all over again.

No thank you.

Hi People,
Barnes&Noble.com has slashed the price of this baby radically. You can get it for $24.98. With shipping it only comes out to a little more than $28.00. What will really make your eyes pop out is that they are selling, at the same price, the Playboy Complete '50's Issues Archive as well. You'll be saving over $70.00 each on these. Which one did I put in for? Well, I dearly love music, but you must know that I would only sacrifice music to one thing. I bought the Playboy one. Well, there's Jazz articles in them too, you know! LOL! I hope this will be the case when they someday do the '60s and '70s issues.

The very first issue of Playboy has an article on the Dorsey Brothers.

(A reprint of the first issue was included in the DVD-ROM set. You can also get it directly from Playboy, price $25.00 plus shipping. Doesn't sound like such a good deal in comparison to the new lower prices for the whole package with the DVDs, but if they're no longer available you've still got this option, at least for the reprint. :) )

What do Marilyn Monroe, Bettie Page, Jayne Mansfield and Brigitte Bardot have in common? They are the most alluring sex symbols of all time--and they all graced the pages of Playboy in the 1950s. But Playboy wasn't only about beautiful women--it featured serious literature by equally serious writers like Hemingway, Kerouac, Bradbury, and Steinbeck.

Playboy Cover to Cover--the 50s brings the magazine's entire groundbreaking first decade--every issue, every page, cover to cover--into one searchable digital archive.

This exclusive box set features the Bondi Reader, powerful MAC or PC browsing software that allows you to explore, search, save and arrange multiple reading lists. Every story, feature and interview, and of course every Playmate, can be located in seconds, and then compiled and cross-referenced however you choose. Playboy Cover to Cover--the 50s also comes with a 224–page companion coffee table book chronicling the behind-the- scenes history of Playboy and filled with never-before-published letters, photos, and contact sheets of Playboy’s amazing first decade. A collector's edition reissue of the extremely rare first issue--featuring Marilyn Monroe's breathtaking cover and pictorial--is included as a special bonus. This essential collection is a must for lifelong fans and subscribers of Playboy, nostalgia seekers, history and culture buffs, as well as all lovers of beautiful women.

• Easy to use and searchable digital archive with every issue, every page (even the ads!) of Playboy from the 1950s on 2 DVD-ROMs
• Includes the powerful Bondi Reader and search engine (Mac or PC). Find and read any award winning cover story, interview, photo or review in seconds
• The browse-by-cover feature lets you visually locate any issue by its cover--simply click the cover and the issue opens to read
• Custom reading lists let you organize the collection any way you want

Amazon has reduced the Playboy set further, to an even $20.00 (80% off):

While I was pleased to pick up this box on the cheap at Barnes & Noble, I hope that all of this heavy discounting isn't an indication that the set was a failure, and that this will be the only decade of Playboy compiled in this manner.

Both the Rolling Stone and Playboy digital archives have again been put on supersale by Amazon ~ not quite as good as the last sale, but still 60% off which is a lot of money saved. Follow the links earlier in the thread to take advantage of the deals.

Okay, I'm sold on both, hope I can figure out how to install that Bondi Reader & search engine, sounds very technical and I'm almost computer illiterate.

I've seen the Rolling Stone set in a smaller box, not as elaborate as shown in the first post and presumably not including the book.
