Excellent choice, IMO. An original title of Fleming's that works well with Bond's condition at the end of Casino Royale; emotionally ravaged by his losses, he only has time for a "quantum of solace" before getting down to business against the mysterious terrorist organization behind so many of that movie's events. Everything I've read so far about the plot sounds awesome, and I'm looking forward to this movie more than any other this year. Never read the original story. From what I understand it's not really what you'd call a "Bond story" at all. It's just about Bond listening to a friend talking about a couple's marital breakup. I'm sure all they're taking is the title a maybe a couple of character names. It still doesn't sound like a very catchy title for a blockbuster Bond movie. Ian Fleming's original works seem like they've been pretty well mined out at this point.

I don't remember being this excited about a forthcoming Bond movie. Casino Royale and Craig's performance were incredible.

Somerset Maugham. It's not Fleming so much as "Fleming doing Maugham." That meddlin kid wrote: Ian Fleming's original works seem like they've been pretty well mined out at this point. You would think so, yes. I'm astounded by how they keep going back to Fleming to find one little bit - even if it's just a scene - that they haven't tapped yet!

going back to mine original Fleming seems to be the magic behind the excellent Craig incarnation so whatever they have to do to keep this going, I'm behind it. Anything's better than going back to the old, stale, status quo.

I wouldn't mind a countdown at all. Failing that, a bump once a month or so with an adjusted date would be fine.
