Velvet Revolver to begin work on new album

Velvet Revolver plan to enter the studio in April to begin recording their third album.

The band are yet to decide on a producer for the album yet, but guitarist Slash has indicated that Brendan O’Brien, who produced the band’s previous album, ‘Libertad’, was a likely choice.

Speaking to Billboard, Slash said: “I'm really jazzed about doing it. I've been working on new ideas, and we've had a couple times where the guys all got together and worked on some stuff.

“I'm itching to see what this third record's gonna be, 'cause I think it's gonna be fuckin' awesome, and I think we don't necessarily need to spend two years on the road [before recording it].

“As you go along [in your musical career] you've got more and more freedom and are less inhibited to do whatever you want, just for the simple fact you've been working together for as long as you have, and you've established a certain creative relationship.”

The guitarist went on to explain that he planned to record a solo album after he completed the forthcoming album with his band.

“It's really in the back of my mind,” he said, “but I haven't gotten the wheels in motion to get it produced. It'll be coming. [It will] probably the next thing I do after the next Velvet Revolver record.”

Scott Weiland enters rehab facility

Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland has admitted himself to rehab.

After a show on Wednesday (February 6) in Los Angeles, the singer checked into an undisclosed rehab centre, resulting in the postponement of last night’s show at the House Of Blues in San Diego.

Weiland has been arrested several times in the past few years for drug related incidents, and has done a number of stints in jail.

His most recent arrest was November 21 when he crashed his car while driving under the influence in Los Angeles.

He previously completed a spell in rehab in 2003.

The next show on the tour schedule is February 15 in Australia, which leaves Weiland just seven days to heal before the tour resumes.

There was a report on Melodicrock.com that Weiland has been fired. He's a great talent and I saw VR this summer and they were killer, but Scott has serious demons and sadly, I'd be surrpised if he doesn't go the way of Layne Staley and so many others.
If VR carry on they'll need a big name to sing, not some bum. Weiland did state last week he was reuniting with STP this summer for some shows, so perhaps, if he survives jail time and not killing himself, the STP reunion will be more long-lasting. But, maybe VR will stick with him, although as former druggies themselves, they have to know this is a no-win situation.

Stone Temple Pilots announce reunion show

Feb 13, 2008

Stone Temple Pilots have announced their long-rumoured reunion show, taking place in May.

Frontman Scott Weiland recently hinted that a reunion was on the cards after he comes off tour with Velvet Revolver and it has been announced the show will happen May 17 at the Rock On The Range festival in Columbus, OH.

Weiland admitted himself to a rehab facility a week ago, having been arrested a number of times for driving under the influence.

Other bands set to play Rock On The Range are Kid Rock, Staind, Papa Roach and Seether, says Billboard.

Scott Weiland pleads innocent to drug charges

Mar 6, 2008

Scott Weiland pleaded innocent today (March 5) to driving under the influence of drugs.

The charges stem from an accident the Velvet Revolver frontman was involved in on a California freeway last November.

Weiland, who has a history of drug-related problems, was arrested after an officer noticed he showed "signs of impairment" and failed sobriety tests.

The singer was not present in the Los Angeles court today, so his plea was entered through his defence attorney, reports the Associated Press.

He is currently free on $40,000 bail and is due to appear in court for a pre-trial hearing on April 4.

Velvet Revolver to split?

Members of Velvet Revolver have said that the band is in "a state of flux", with frontman Scott Weiland announcing onstage in Glasgow that the band would never tour again and a bitter war of words emerging between the singer and drummer Matt Sorum.

During the band's gig in the Scottish city on March 20 Weiland announced onstage that fans were witnessing the last ever tour by Velvet Revolver. Following the outburst, Sorum posted a statement online saying that the band were in turmoil.

Weiland followed his band-mate's comments up by releasing a statement to Blabbermouth, in which he attacked Sorum, calling him "immature" and revealing that the drummer entered rehab last Autumn.

He hinted that he was interested in rejoining his former band, Stone Temple Pilots on a more permanent basis, writing, "On a separate note, we did an STP photo shoot before this tour and it was fun, inspiring and it gave me that thrill – that feeling that got my rocks off from the get-go."

Weiland is scheduled to re-join Stone Temple Pilots for live dates in May.

Sorum's statement read:

"Being in a band is a lot like being in a relationship. Sometimes you just don't get along. I guess there has been more turmoil lately, I guess, with the cancellations and all. It has been frustrating, I am not going to lie.

"My career and life in rock 'n' roll has come with its ups and downs. Unfortunately, some people in this business don't realise how great of a life they have. Touring the world, meeting great people and fans all over the world. And just playing music for a living. I feel truly blessed.

"But sometimes the road can be draining for some. Being away from home and family does grind on you sometimes. Personally, I love this shit and sometimes can't believe I am so lucky to still be doing what I do for a living.

"Everybody could see who was unhappy last night [at the Glasgow gig], but all I can say is let's keep the rock alive, people! In this life, you just pick up and keep moving. And don't ever let anybody stand in your way."

Weiland's response read:

"Well, first of all, the state of my family affairs is really none of his [Sorum's] business, since he is too immature to have a real relationship, let alone children. So don't attempt to stand in a man's shoes when you haven't walked his path.

"Secondly, 'keeping rock 'n' roll alive?' I've made many attempts to remain cordial with the members of Velvet Revolver, but mainly, the likes of you. Funny though – this is your first band, as opposed to being a hired gun.

"I've been making records (I'm now on my ninth) which have sold over 35 million copies worldwide and have maintained a level of professionalism regardless of how many drugs I've ingested into my system.

"I have only cancelled one tour during the entire course of my 16-year run. Now, shall I open that can of worms, Matthew? Release the Kraken? Serve... volley! You cancelled the Aussie tour in the fall because you went to rehab, but I won't say why.

"As for our fans – I will sweat, bruise, and bleed for you. And will continue to do so until the end of this tour. However, you deserve to hear Velvet Revolver playing, not certain individuals singing along to get a muddied up sound.

"God forbid – could one imagine if I grabbed a guitar and started soloing along with Slash? That would never happen because I know my place. It's a shame, we were a gang. But ego and jealousy can get the better of anyone. I wish the best and plan to annihilate the stage in the last few shows."

Slash: 'Velvet Revolver might continue without Scott Weiland'
Guitarist says the group are not splitting up

March 31, 2008

Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash has said that, despite recent reports of his band being in turmoil, they are not splitting up - although singer Scott Weiland may not be in the band for much longer.

As previously reported on NME.COM, Velvet Revolver's Scott Weiland and drummer Matt Sorum fell out after a recent gig in Glasgow, with Weiland suggesting that the band may never tour again.

Since the bust-up, Slash has told the Daily Star that the band will record another album, but possibly without the singer.

"There will be a third album," he said. "We don't know how or when but the core four guys will continue."

A band less than the sum of its parts. I was only ever impressed with one or two Velvet songs. STP and Guns & Roses were both better bands.

Goodbye Scott Weiland-cool that STP are back, but Scott is forever a piece of shit. Talented, yes, but what a waste. Velvet Revolver are a good band, but nothing special-perhaps a new singer can chnage that, but I doubt it.

From Blabbermouth.net:

VELVET REVOLVER founding members Slash, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Dave Kushner announced today (Tuesday, April 1) that they are parting ways with singer Scott Weiland. "This band is all about its fans and its music and Scott Weiland isn't 100% committed to either," said Slash in a press release. "Among other things, his increasingly erratic onstage behavior and personal problems have forced us to move on."

Slash hinted in a recent interview that the band might carry on without Weiland, who announced onstage in Glasgow two weeks ago that fans were watching the "last tour" by the group. Weiland and drummer Matt Sorum proceeded to get into a public war of words online, fueling speculation that the band was splitting apart. But Slash told Classic Rock magazine, "Obviously I'm very aware of everything that's going on. The only thing I can add to that is, in contrast to what Scott says, there will be a VELVET REVOLVER after this tour." When asked if Weiland would continue as the singer, Slash added with a chuckle, "I have no comment on that."

Weiland is reuniting with his previous outfit, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, which broke up in 2002. The group has scheduled a press conference in Los Angeles for April 7 where it will announce a full tour of 50 or more dates for the summer and fall in addition to the handful of festival shows already confirmed.

Weiland spent a month in rehab recently, following an arrest for driving under the influence last November and his failure to show up for a VELVET REVOLVER gig at the Sundance Festival in January.

Despite the latest turmoil, bassist Duff McKagan told the U.K.'s Journal Live recently, "VELVET REVOLVER is something that's going to be around for a long while yet."

Scott Weiland calls Velvet Revolver statement a cover-up
Former frontman man speaks out on split

April 2, 2008
http://www.nme.com/news/velvet-revolver/35618

Image

Former Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland released a statement this morning (April 2) responding to yesterday's comments made by the other members of the band.

As previously reported, Slash, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum and Dave Kushner released their own statement yesterday, announcing their split with Weiland, blaming 'his increasingly erratic onstage behavior and personal problems'.

This morning Weiland released the following statement:

"After reading the comment by Duff, Matt, Dave and the illustrious 'GUITAR HERO' Saul Hudson, a.k.a Slash, I find it humorous that the so called four 'founding members' of Velvet Revolver, better known to themselves as 'The Project' before I officially named the band, would decide to move on without me after I had already claimed the group dead in the water on March 20 in Glasgow.

"In response to Slash's comment regarding my commitment, I have to say it is a blatant and tired excuse to cover up the truth. The truth of the matter is that the band had not gotten along on multiple levels for some time. On a musical level, there were moments of joy, inspiration, fun...at times, but let's not forget the multiple trips to rehab every member of the band had taken (with the exception of one member, no need to mention his name)."

Weiland then spoke about his forthcoming reunion tour with Stone Temple Pilots:

"Personally speaking, I choose to look forward to the future and performing with a group of friends I have known my entire life, people who have always had my back. This also speaks to my commitment to my music and my fellow band mates in STP and to the fans who I feel would much rather watch a group of musicians who enjoy being together as opposed to a handful of discontents who at one time used to call themselves a gang.

P.S. Don't be fooled by veiled trickery."

He then added cryptically, referring to their search for a new singer:

"P.P.S. Good hunting lads, I think Sebastian Bach would be a fantastic choice."

The group played their last show last night (April 1) together in Amsterdam.

NEW VELVET REVOLVER FRONT MAN TO BE ANNOUNCED
Slash says group are auditioning for a new vocalist after Weiland's exit

http://www.uncut.co.uk/news/uncut/news/11367

Image

Velvet Revolver guitarist Slash has revealed to Rolling Stone that a replacement front man for the recently departed Scott Weiland is very close.

Slash has said: “We actually worked with a guy, before we left to go to the UK and there just wasn’t enough time to break him in, so we’re gonna work with him again some more, and maybe some other guys as well.”

Slash has also publically dismissed Scott Weiland’s suggestions that former Skid Row vocalist Sebastian Bach should be hired “I thought [Weiland] could be a little bit more imaginative. I’m not sure if that was meant to be a pot shot or what. Whatever, it’s not worth any real drama.”

Paul Rodgers.

I think Paul Rodgers should be the singer in as many bands as possible, just to see what would happen. When a group loses their singer, bring in Paul Rodgers. Queen featuring Paul Rodgers. Velvet Revolver featuring Paul Rodgers. Journey featuring Paul Rodgers.

INXS didn't have to make a TV series to find a new singer, they could have called Paul Rodgers.

John Sebastian's voice is shot, but The Lovin' Spoonful would sound great fronted by Paul Rodgers.

I think Paul Rodgers could bring back that R&B edge The Beach Boys have been missing since Blondie Chaplin left the band.

Gene Simmons doesn't want to record a new KISS album? No problem, Paul Stanley can call in Paul Rodgers.

Paul Rodgers could finish "Chinese Democracy".

Paul Rodgers could reform Slade. He could reform The Faces. He could reform Sailor, Pilot, Ambrosia, City Boy, Firefall, Pierce Arrow, Ram Jam, Dr. Hook and even Paper Lace.

Paul Rodgers can save Velvet Revolver.

Paul Rodgers is too busy to do all that - he just came up with a cure for cancer and is in secret talks with Paul McCartney and Ring-- oops! I've said too much already.
