the new counting crows CD "saturday nights and sunday mornings" was to be released on november 6 (next week). i no longer see it on the pause and play release schedule, nor can i find any information about it.

anyone know what is happening with this release?

I don't know if their new CD has been delayed, but the band's official website still posts the following release info there:

Following up the deluxe version of August and Everything After, the Crows will release their long awaited new album Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings on November 6th.
The record is the Crows' first studio album in almost 5 years, since the release of Hard Candy in 2002.

P&P, on the other hand, have bumped it to January...

Can't remember where I read it, but Adam Duritz has said that the new CD is being delayed until February or March of 2008. Something about time was getting short to meet deadlines for photo shoots, etc. and they didn't want to rush it out without devoting the time needed to get it right.

Much to my chagrin, Jim's information is consistent with what I had read.

There is another reason I'm writing this today and this is actually the thing that got me off my ass in the first place. This will frustrate some of you I'm sure, and I apologize for that, but we've gone to Geffen and asked to push back the release date of Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings until sometime after the New Year.

I don't know if there's any more solid timeframe than that.

A pre-order listing for the album just appeared on Amazon, it shows the release date as March 25th:

Counting Crows Push New Album To January

Originally expected Nov. 6, Counting Crows' new album, "Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings," has been pushed back to January. "Between all the touring and the traveling and the mixing and mastering of the new album and putting the together the package ... we just let some little things fall through the cracks," frontman Adam Duritz writes on the band's Web site.

"There are videos and singles and so many things to decide on and finish and it's just not the time in our career to be rushing important decisions," he continues. "Actually, in my opinion, it's never the right time to rush important decisions. We really try to make records that last forever. I don't see the point in putting all the work in to do that and then not having the right cover or picking the wrong single or making the wrong video."

"Saturday Nights" (Geffen) will be the Crows' first studio album since 2002's "Hard Candy." The "Saturday" portion of the disc features more electric material, while the "Sunday" segment is more acoustic-based.

"This album is really starkly divided, not just musically but thematically," Duritz told Billboard in August. "The first half is pretty dark stuff and 'Sunday Mornings' is not a side about redemption either. 'Sunday Mornings' is about sorrow and grief."

He added, "Whether or not everyone else will like it or not, I don't know. It's not a normal Counting Crows record. It may turn some people off."
