Not sure what Rhino is doing with this just yet, it will be out on Jan. 8 (my birthday by the way, gifts will be accepted-same day as Bowie, Elvis, Robby Kreiger-no wonder I love music-oh yeah, Soupy Sales too!) as a CD/DVD combo release billed as the "Collector's Edition". No bonus tracks are listed, and I'm guessing the overplayed music videos are the DVD. Perhaps the pro shot concert from Germany in 1983 can also be included? We shall see. Will any other ZZ Top remasters follow? Damn-the whole catalogue should've been done by now!
The info so far:

Image

1. Gimme All Your Lovin
2. Got Me Under Pressure
3. Sharp Dressed Man
4. I Need You Tonight
5. I Got The Six
6. Legs
7. Thug
8. T. V. Dinners
9. Dirty Dog
10. If I Could Only Flag Her Down
11. Bad Girl

Notes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ZZ Top: Billy Gibbons (guitar, vocals); Dusty Hill (bass, synthesizers, vocals); Frank Beard (drums, percussion).

ELIMINATOR, with its churning guitars and synthesizer hooks, was on the album charts for over a year, and had hits with "Sharp Dressed Man," "Gimme All Your Lovin'" and "Legs." The album and its accompanying videos were ubiquitous in 1983, on television ZZ Top was seen on MTV, "St. Elsewhere," even on the Tonight show.

1983 was the year Z.Z. Top went from being everyone's favourite bar-room boogie band to international superstars. Graced with mind-boggling and incredibly photogenic beards, a very neat trilogy of sexy videos and a collective ear for a quite distinct and highly stylized, if somewhat grizzled blues/pop, the sudden enormity of their success seems in retrospect like no real surprise. MTV had never quite seen the like and the attention given to the excellent 'Gimme All Your Lovin" single was quickly repeated for both 'Sharp-Dressed Man' and the quite irreverent 'Legs'. It still sounds fresh, innovative and fun today. in the wake of many imitators.

Shouldn't this at least also include the "Legs" remix as a bonus track?

They need to remaster the rest of their albums. The Tres Hombres and Fandango
remasters are pretty good (sound like the original album) - the first 3 albums
including Tejas (this was a hell of a great album) should definately be remastered
and reissued. Eliminator (imo) marks the decline (commercial sellout) of this band.

I've wondered about this for years--I believe "Legs" had a single mix and an album mix, and I've never been sure which one was the "default" version. The biggest difference between the two was an extra little guitar lick overdubbed throughout.

I agree, Tejas is a great (& sadly neglected) record. While I liked Eliminator & their other MTV stuff in the 80's, today I could live with just Tejas, Tres Hombres & Fandango.

Keep in mind, if you don't mind waiting, BMG Club/Your Music brought in both of the previous ZZ Top remasters.

Thanks as always for the info-so cool to see there are some very nice bonuses with live tracks. I ordered this from my pal at Rhino-he got an advance copy for himself and he told me this is a first-rate package, so I'm really looking forward to this. But, what of the rest of the damn catalogue???

Btw I went to a local Barnes And Noble today to make sure it was coming out tomorrow and I found out it's been indefinitely postponed.

Seems to be. CDUniverse now lists it as backordered and Amazon states "usually ships in 3 to 6 weeks".

What I posted above was from a little ZZ Top fansite in Europe, it's the only description of the DVD contents that's out there ATM. Even Rhino themselves have no info at their website.

Quote:
The DVD features all four album videos plus 4 songs played live on the UK's The Tube in November 1983, all previously unreleased.

No sign of this at J&R today. And they're usually very good about stocking major-label reissues on day of release. :ohno:

This package has been pushed back to June 10th. Also, Rhino's involvement might be out of the equation ~ it's now listed simply as a Warner/Reprise release.

ZZ Top Shows Some “Legs” Again w/Expanded Eliminator Reissue

http://harpmagazine.com/news/detail.cfm?article=12151
Fred Mills
January 16, 2008

It was the album—or maybe it was the saucy, legs-and-all videos, who can say?—that gave ZZ Top a second lease on life. “That little ol’ band from Texas” with the big sound shifted gears in 1983 with the trio’s eighth studio album, Eliminator. Creating a new sound, the band subversively co-opted the humming synthesizers of new wave and fused them to its trademark hot-rodded blues boogie. The album roared into the MTV age powered by a trio of smash radio singles and iconic videos that helped make those sharp-dressed men—Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard—international superstars.

Eliminator also holds the rare distinction of being among the first group of albums to be awarded diamond certification by the RIAA for sales of 10 million copies. Now comes a 25th anniversary edition from Warner Bros., due March 25. Eliminator: Collector’s Edition includes bonus tracks and previously unreleased live tracks, as well as those videos featuring the album’s singles and rare live performances.

From the label:

The CD contains a remastered version of the album’s first pressing, including the rare original album version of the Top 10 smash “Legs,” which was replaced on subsequent pressings with a single version that had been edited for radio. Along with the hit singles “Gimme All Your Lovin’” and “Sharp Dressed Man,” the disc also features seven bonus tracks. Five are previously unreleased live performances of songs from Eliminator. The live tracks include “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” “Sharp Dressed Man,” “TV Dinners,” and “Got Me Under Pressure,” all recorded at Castle Donington in England as well as “I Got The Six,” recorded at The Marquee Club in London. The bonus tracks feature both the single and 12” dance remix versions of “Legs.” The deluxe packaging also features rare photos and extensive liner notes from longtime band publicist and confidant Bob Merlis.

One of the biggest albums of the ’80s, Eliminator was also responsible for creating some of the decade’s most memorable videos by mixing hot rods and hot bods. The DVD includes iconic videos for “Legs,” “Gimme All Your Lovin’” and “Sharp Dressed Man.” Known collectively as “The Eliminator Trilogy,” all three videos were directed by Tim Newman and all starred the ’33 Ford three window coupe, with the ZZ pinstriping down the side, and a trio of leggy beauties. Also included is the rarely seen video for “TV Dinners,” which starred a ZZ TOP-loving claymation alien named Zelt. In addition to the videos, the DVD portion includes five performances originally broadcast in England on the popular music television program The Tube. The songs includes “Got Me Under Pressure,” “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Tube Snake Boogie,” a song that originally appeared on the band’s 1981 album, El Loco.

ELIMINATOR (COLLECTOR’S EDITION) TRACK LISTING:

1. “Gimme All Your Lovin’”
2. “Got Me Under Pressure”
3. “Sharp Dressed Man”
4. “I Need You Tonight”
5. “I Got The Six”

One of the "muses" in the ZZ Top videos (Jeanna Tomasina) was a Playboy Playmate of the Month November 1980 at that time who now can be seen on the Bravo TV show "The Real Housewives Of Orange County".

She's also been seen in a movie called "The Beach Girls" thats playing on my Verizon FIOS VOD section. Really cool 1982 naked beach chick movie with lots of topless shots! :D

Image

From IMDB: Jeanna Tomasina: One of the three regular girls featured in ZZ Top's "Eliminator" album videos of the mid-80s. E.g. "Sharp Dressed Man", "Legs", "Gimme All Your Lovin" and "Sleeping Bag." All three girls played Muse like characters, always driving around in the classic red-ZZ Top 1930s style Ford, and helping give make-overs or inspiring lonesome individuals.
