I remember seeing a scene in the trailer that was never in the movie...Coolio in jail being interrogated by Murdock...Coolio was obviously meant to be Turc from the Miller issues..never made it to the movie though!
DD was almost good...they tried to cram in too much and it fell flat..what can you do?
I liked the DAREDEVIL movie. I seem to have liked it more than a lot of fans. I could really some love for Miller's saga in there, though, and the casting was much better than I expected. (I was really surprised at how good Ben Affleck was! I didn't expect that.)
I won't buy the Director's Cut, though, unless it's damned good. I don't want to fall into the trap of buying every new "special edition" of a movie!

It'll have an additional 20 mins, I remember reading that it was an entire courtroom subplot where Kingpin had set 'Coolio' up for something and Matt and Foggy have defend him.
I also read somewhere that the Director Johnson was anxious to take out some of the scenes the studio forced on him IIRC the Matt, Elektra make out fireplace sequence was only shot shortly before it's theatrical release.
The only extras listed are a brand new commentary with Writer/Director Johnson and Avi Arad and a making-of the Directors Cut. It's hard to imagine there won't be some sort of promo or preview for the Elektra flick that opens about a month later.
I'm buying it, for my sins I enjoyed the original and it was a helluva DVD, and heck if I'm picking up the extended Hellboy for only 10 mins of additional footage, this represents value for money!
Do they somehow make sense of the courtroom sequence where Matt is apparently prosecuting a criminal case? If there's an explanation for that in the theatrical release, I missed it somehow.
I'm with Bob, I liked DD. The only thing I was not fine with was that guy in the subway. I don't care what reality its in, no way does Matt Murdock let that guy die.
I do like the movie - originally, my big problem with it was the Matt/Electra 'fight' in the kids park...
...upon later viewings, it did seem more like comic opera, so somehow I managed to come away liking the scene more. It still isn't my favourite or anything, but it is alright.
I already own the existing DD DVD (heck, the Daredevil Comics interviews made it worth the price of ownership), and don't like it enough to buy any other versions (unlike The Crow, which I own both on collecters-edition VHS and DVD, as well as the soundtrack - not the score, though, that is hard to find). I will be seeing the Electra movie (and DD2 if it actually gets made)
From the time I saw the first trailer, I knew DAREDEVIL was gonna stink.
I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong. It was <i>almost</i> a good movie. It is practically a text book example of a story full of unrealized potential and missed opportunities.
Had the movie presented less and explored more, it could have been an excellent film.
There are two reasons why I enjoyed the DD movie somewhat. Like Jim, I had low expectations, and it was a little better than that. Also, I hadn't been out of the house or away from the kids for anything except work for about six months.
I think what bothered some people was that the movie Daredevil had to evolve into a man who wouldn't have let that guy die in the subway. In the comics, he's always been a man who wouldn't let that happen.
Please, do yourself a favor and watch the Daredevil Director's Cut.
Buy it, borrow it from a friend, get it from the library (if your library actually has it), illegally download it, I don't care how you get it, just watch it.
It is at the very least 200 times better than the theatrical release, and beyond that it is a good movie (like for reals), not a great movie really, but pretty damn good, in my top 5 best comic book movie list.
Whereas the theatrical was a poorly done romantic comedy with some action scenes, the Director's Cut is a full blown crime drama with a truly compelling story and it serves as a terrific adaptation of Frank Miller's Daredevil, so I guess if you don't like Frank Miller's Daredevil you probably still won't like it, but if you do I URGE you to check it out, I doubt you will be disappointed.
I agree completely. The term "Director's Cut" gets thrown around way too much these days (I'm sorry, but showing more boobs in a comedy doesn't make it a "director's cut"), but this really is a case of the Director's Cut being a radically different (and better) film.
It does make the movie better to watch. By the way, I own both movies on DVD.
I'm not sure you'd be doing yourself a favor by watching either of these, but definitely watch the Director's Cut if you're dead set on watching this movie at all.
I've heard these words before, but I remain skeptical. I mean, it's still Affleck and not Damon in the lead role, right? How different could it be?
The only way DD could be better is if the DC had a completely different cast, another story and a better director.
Still, I'm open minded. I haven't seen the DC is because I have never seen it for rent, or really cheap. And I'm not spending more than 3 bucks on a longer turd.
It will get a release in BD, if it's for rent, I see it.

The plot, which skips around a lot in the first cut, is explained much better in the DC. The court room scenes make sense. Affleck comes across as lost, but finding himself. I agree with the 200 times better assesment.
