First, if you're not familiar with "Whiteout" by Greg Rucka and Steve Lieber, get familiar with it. It's awesome.
Second:
Quote: BECKINSALE, SENA ATTACHED TO WHITEOUT, FILMING DATE SETIn the unsure world of moving comics to the screen, Greg Rucka and Steve Lieber’s Whiteout appears to have taken a large and definitive one, as Production Weekly has confirmed rumors that Kate Beckinsale will play US Marshal Carrie Stetko in the film version of the story, with Dominic (Gone in 60 Seconds) Sena directing. Filming is slated to begin the first week in March in Montreal (presumably on sets) and Manitoba (presumably exteriors). Erich and Jon Hoeber wrote the screenplay adaptation of the story. For those unfamiliar with it, the comic, Rucka’s first major foray into comics, followed Stetko as she must solve the first murder on the Antarctic ice. Stetko is in a race against time to find and apprehend the killer before he leaves for the winter, or be trapped with him for six months. The film is being produced by Joel Silver, as part of his Dark Castle Productions slate, which Warner Bros. will distribute. According to previous announcements of the Dark Castle schedule, the film version of Whiteout is scheduled for a first quarter 2008 release, which is on track with Silver’s recent quick production schedules, as V for Vendetta began filming in March of 2005, and was released on March 17th, 2006 – albeit delayed from November 4th, 2005.
This is cool news. I loved Whiteout, and think Beckinsale is a good choice.

I remember them announcing this with Reese Witherspoon a few years back. I haven't read Whiteout yet, but I'm a fan of Rucka and Leiber, so I definitely need to rectify that.

Matt, I clipped it from my quote so as not to post the full text, but from the same story:
Quote: As for the property itself, the film rights to Whiteout have been in play since late 1999, when it was optioned by Wolfgang Petersen and Gail Katz with Columbia. Since then, it has been optioned again and again, with the most recent development prior to Silver’s involvement being that it was to be a vehicle for Reese Witherspoon.
So yeah, it seems at one time it was going to Witherspoon. Doesn't seem like a good choice; glad that changed.

Whiteout was my first exposure to both Rucka and Lieber's work, I've been a fan ever since. Outstanding work. Plus, Steve is one of the good guys. Twice he was giving away a few copies of his last couple chapbooks on one of the message boards I hang out on, both times the number of copies he was giving away had already been claimed, but he was kind enough to send me copies anyway.

I started re-reading Whiteout and Whiteout: Melt today. So awesome. Rucka,Leiber and Oni's best work ever. If you're a fan at all of the movie "Insomnia" - this is a little bit like that. But better.

Looks interesting... and I like Kate Beckinsale. A prediction: In the film version, Marshal Stetko's winter gear/uniform will consist of some sort of skin-tight body suit.

I loved the promo for Melt with Carrie flipping us off.
Read Whiteout and you'll get why it's funny.

I thought of the EXACT SAME THING this morning! I find it very hard to believe the casting of Kate Beckinsale means they will stay true to the character of Carrie. Hell, I doubt they'll even do you know what to her you know whats. You know, skin-tight leather REALLY isn't a good idea in the Antarctic.

I was Steve Leiber's R.A. at JKS -- we had a lot of really neat, long intellectual conversations about the industry. I credit him for turning me on to Love and Rockets. I hope he gets big-time residuals from this.

I hope Rucka and Leiber have some say in this. I know it's rare. But I don't want to see another "Eragon". Done right, this should be an Oscar contender, not a 90 minute music video. Keep Ewe Bolle or whatever his name is the hell away!

As I said in my soon to be locked thread ( ) this is from the director or Gone In 60 Seconds and Swordfish, and the other female lead is now being played by Gabriel Macht (Denny Colt in Miller's SPIRIT adaptation), so I'm a bit iffy, but I'll likely see it. Merged the other posts into this thread. — Linda
