Golly gee...another chance to repurchase "Thriller"! Whoopee! At least they may fix the tape drag problem from the least reissue, which I guess is one positive about this whole thing.

Speaking of Michael, I wonder when someone is going to do something with "Captain Eo".

There was tape drag on the last edition? I never noticed! I'll have to buy this one then.

Actually, that tape drag issue in the latter part of "Baby Be Mine" wasn't tape drag after all. It's supposed to sound like that!

This is the first time I've ever heard that. From my recollection, it wasn't on the original and it sounds really bad on the reissue.

What more can they possibly add to this? He's never been the most prolific artist in the studio. All I can see is the second disc being made up of remixes. Oh, and I love the "The Worlds Biggest Selling Album of All Time" subtitle. Have you ever seen any other artist do something like this? I'm surprised he didn't add "The King of Pop" to the front as well.

Renny,

I don't disagree with your assessment of him and you're certainly entitled to your decision, but we're talking about the music business here, something we all actively support. There are a lot of people in this business where something isn't right with them. I think in many cases, it's the nature of the beast. We have to overlook some of it, but I'm guessing that you feel that MJ has crossed a threshold of some sort. I think he's a nutjob, but any time he releases something that I consider worthwhile, I'll buy it, nutjob or not.

The tracklisting has been announced ~ it does include a little more than just remixes, and it's actually a CD/DVD set not a 2-CD set:

Kanye West, Akon, will.i.am for 'Thriller' reissue

Kanye West, Akon and will.i.am have contributed remixes to the 25th anniversary commemorative issue of Michael Jackson's classic 'Thriller' album.

Previously unreleased tracks from Jackson himself have also been included on the disc entitled 'Thriller - 25th Anniversary Edition', which will be released on February 12.

West has remixed 'Billie Jean', will.i.am reworked two tracks - 'The Girl Is Mine' and 'P.Y.T'. Meanwhile, Akon and will.i.am are both featured on 'Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'.

A track entitled 'For All Time' which was recorded during the 'Thriller' sessions but didn't make the album, has been mastered and mixed by Michael Jackson for the album, says Billboard.

The original 'Billie Jean' demo will feature, and included in the package is a DVD featuring videos for the singles 'Beat It', 'Billie Jean' and the groundbreaking epic video for 'Thriller'.

The track listing is:

'Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'
'Baby Be Mine'
'The Girl Is Mine'
'Thriller'
'Beat It'
'Billie Jean'
'Human Nature'
'P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)'
'The Lady in My Life'
'Carousel'
'Someone in the Dark'
'Billie Jean' (demo)
'The Girl Is Mine 2008' with will.i.am
'P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) 2008' with Michael Jackson and will.i.am
'Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' 2008' with Michael Jackson, Akon and will.i.am
'Billie Jean 2008' with Kanye West
'For All Time'

Do you mean the original LP or original CD? I don't have the LP anymore, but I just checked my original made-in-Japan-for-US CD, and the "tape drag" is there, 3:32 into the song.

I'll be damned...it's the same on my "Made In Japan" version. Hmm...well...it still sounds like crap!

Oh, just what we need, some new remixes. Aren't there still a number of original 12" mixes that are absent on CD? That singles box from a couple years ago was noticeably deficient in that regard.

This is supposed to be commemorating the 25th anniversary, right?? So why on earth are there new remixes with Kanye Ego and that other hip hop dude?? Well, obviously they're there to bolster its sales with the younger audience.

There should be unreleased tracks or remixes from that era...not 2007.

I could care less about the "Thriller" album, but Jeff asks a thought-provoking question. Two albums titles that immediately pop into my head are "50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong" by the (real) King, and "England's Newest Hit Makers" by the Rolling Stones.

it's just somethiong about the little kids.

my life is spent with kids, the younger they are the more vulnerable and impressionable they are.

jackson used his money and power and fame to take advantage of that, and i cannot, under any circumstances condone it. and you can be damn sure it happened more than the one time it became public.

sure other artists are not saints, hell, my favorites CSNY, had their share of ups and downs too, but not with little kids, that's where i draw the line.

sorry for the rant,

renny

p.s. and that is probably why my feelings for pete townshend are what they are, i know he was absolved in the kiddie porn thing, but knowing what i know about the world and what power and lots of money can do, i'll always wonder.

This was, for me, a perfect album for its time. I liked it, my children liked it, and we were enjoying the whole MTV experience.
By the time he got around to crowning himself "The King of Pop", he no longer was. He's been a creepy, slimy, gasbag for over 20 years, and I won't need another thing from him.
The original album was great enough and will always have a spot on my turntable.

Didn't Don Henley get arrested once with an underage prostitute and a whole bunch of drugs?

AMW,

yes.

and i'm sure he checked her ID before he did whatever he did with her.

and, if i remember correctly, don henley never had a disneyland in his backyard and never ran around holding hands with little boys at other amusement parks and in public.

in fact, i don't think don henley ever once showed a personna of hanging out with little kids.

bad, bad, bad analogy.

sorry,

renny

Well, I agree with you about Townshend...I'll always wonder. And I'll wonder about Henley too. I don't think that anybody "accidently" winds up with kiddie porn on their computer any more than anybody "accidently" winds up with an underage prostitute. However, I don't think that either one of them ranks up there with Michael on the predator scale...So we agree on everything--except for one thing: I hate the Eagles!!! And I'll be happy to gloat over Henley's arrest for the next hundred years if at all possible! Muahaha!!!
