I believe there are excellent internet capabilities there. I know of a soldier that develops a lot of desktops that has been working from one of the sites outside of Baghdad.

And you mean this isn't Veterinarian's day? Oh.

(proudly served in the US Navy for 7 years plus 2 more in the reserves).

Thanks to all the vets!

(is there an echo in the room?)

Even if we don't like your Commander-In-Chief, you're still the best!

Geez, Hank, can't we put him away for five seconds?

I called my favorite vet this morning, but my dad didn't answer the phone. Happy Veterans' Day to him and all of you who serve / have served.

James, I don't think I've talked politics on IMWAN more than twice since I've been here. I'll admit I bashed him enough on the JBF before the election to last a good long time, but it's been a year.

My point was that contrary to what talk radio tries to tell you, opposing the war or the GOP doesn't mean you don't love the troops. My favorite vets are my dad and my brother, and they're both more rabid left-wingers than me.

So let me reiterate: I'm proud to be an American and proud of our men & women in uniform!

My comment Hank was not a personal one about you so much as etiquette. That is to say, one can wish Dan Slott a happy birthday without commenting at all on Joe Quesada.

How funny. I'm not a Jr., but my dad is also James (in addition to being my favorite vet.) He served in Korea. Yours?

My dad served in the Air Force during Korea, but was assigned to NATO communication installations in France.

I was stationed in Sicily, Iceland, Jacksonville (where I was assigned a squadron that put me on various ships and duty stations).

Well, my dad didn't get all the way to Korea. He was in Japan for most of the war.

Sounds like my Old Man. Was in the 82nd Airborne from '66-68, but spent most of that time in Germany. The rest was at the Presidio.

Which one, Hank? Both are pretty, but SF gets mah vote! And I laud your comments; Dubya, like Slick WIllie might not get everyone's vote, but those who serve are always giving, despite who's in the oval office!

(much like IMWAN is our second-favourite, I haveta settle for bein' Frank's second-favourite Vet!)

Yup, SF. He was a medic, mostly patching up guys who hurt themselves while drunk.

Interesting Veteran's Day experience while doing some shopping in WalMart this morning:

Indignant woman wanted to know why my kids were not in school, as Berkeley County public schools did not have the day off.

My wife and I, proud homeschoolers of our 6 wonderful children, declared that we were homeschoolers, and therefore not abiding by that ludicrous rule. If any holiday should be celebrated, it's this one. Without Veterans, we could be all speaking German or Japanese right now, non-voluntarily.

Thankfully, the Berkeley County students were given Halloween off, so they could trick or treat that night.

No, I'm not kidding...

My favorite vet is also my dad. He served in the Marines for four years (including a few weeks in a destroyer circling Cuba in the fall of 1962.)

Pensacola is a bigtime military town so Veteran's Day is quite a big deal here.

The media here does a "Military Salute" thing. I was a bit embarrassed to hear my name on the radio. I guess my picture's been on the TV too.
