It's good that these late albums remain in print, but what's the point of remastering? Surely they would've gotten it right in the '90s.

Why?

These sounded great to begin with and it's not like there was a plethora of insturmentation that could have been brought up in the mix.

I haven't checked the listings closely, but are they really being remastered, or just re-released? I know the early "American Recordings" titles were briefly out of print (but readily available) for a while.

They're listed as "remastered versions from Legacy Recordings". Whether they're better, different, worse, who knows. An ICEr who picks these up will have to report in.
