Nine Inch Nails reveal remix album details
11.Oct.07 7:44pm
Nine Inch Nails have revealed the details of their forthcoming remix album 'Y34RZ3R0R3MIX3D'.
In a posting on the band's website, frontman Trent Reznor confirmed that the album is due out on November 20 in the US via Interscope (despite the fact that they recently announced they'd soon be parting ways with their label).
The band will release it in three formats, digital, CD and vinyl, as Reznor explained: "I can make this easy for you: if you just want to hear the tracks as cheaply as possible, get it digitally. The highest fidelity will likely be Amazon (through legal means).
"If you want something that's aesthetically cool and will enhance any collection, get the vinyl. Trust me, it looks great. The extra tracks are fairly minor embellishments to the whole (and surely someone will upload them instantly).
"If you want higher quality tracks legally, a nice package AND a complete multitrack of the whole record, get the physical CD / DVD ROM."
Reznor also revealed the tracklisting, confirming that members of New Order, Ladytron, The Faint and Sam Fogarino of Interpol have contributed remixes to the album.
Reznor said of the album: "I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. Remix records can be disposable garbage (of which I myself have been guilty of to some extent) but this collection feels good to me.
"I reached out to heroes, friends and strangers. I encouraged those I approached to do anything and insert themselves as much as possible into the track."
The 'Y34RZ3R0R3MIX3D' CD tracklisting is:
'Gunshots By Computer' (Saul Williams remix)
'The Great Destroyer' (Modwheelmood remix)
'My Violent Heart' (Pirate Robot Midget remix)
'The Beginning Of The End' (Ladytron remix)
'Survivalism' (Saul Williams remix)
'Capital G' (Epworth Phones remix)
'Vessel' (Bill Laswell remix)
'The Warning' (Stefan Goodchild remix, ft. Doudou N'Diaye Rose)
'Meet Your Master' (The Faint remix)
'God Given' (Stephen Morris & Gillian Gilbert remix)
'Me, I'm Not' (Olof Dreijer of the Knife remix)
'Another Version of the Truth' (Kronos & Enrique Gonzalez Müller remix)
'In This Twilight' (Fennesz remix)
'Zero Sum' (Stephen Morris & Gillian Gilbert)

The pre-order listing for the CD/DVD package is now up:
"I'm very pleased with the way it turned out," says Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails' Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D (Interscope Records). "Remix records can be disposable garbage (of which I myself have been guilty to some extent) but this collection feels good to me."
Spun off from Year Zero, the #2-charting album issued in the spring, Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D features a stunning diversity of remixers, from Joy Division and New Order's Stephen Morris to classical crossover pioneer Kronos Quartet and hip-hop poet Saul Williams; from avant-garde leader Bill Laswell, electronica's Olof Dreijer from The Knife, Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino and post-punk revivalists The Faint to an unknown fan who submitted a remix via the Internet.
"I reached out to heroes, friends and strangers," says Reznor. "I encouraged those I approached to do anything and insert themselves as much as possible into the track. Some of the stuff that was done earlier led me to choosing other people to balance things out. The Pirate Robot Midget mix is a fan's work--I thought it was great, it filled a need and I asked permission to use it here. It's always interesting for me to hear my work reinterpreted--I hope it is for you as well."
In fact, purchasers can even reinterpret and remix Year Zero themselves. The CD package for Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D includes a DVD-ROM containing every track from Year Zero in multi-track format (Mac and PC). Perhaps for the first time, the master multi-tracks for every recording on a major album are being made available to the public. The tracks are pre-formatted for Apple GarageBand and Ableton Live (Mac or PC); the DVD-ROM also adds the demo version of Ableton Live (Mac or PC) and generic WAVE files at 16 bit 44K that can be loaded into any audio editor.
A special Web site, http://remix.nin.com, will debut upon Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D's release date. Says Reznor,"Remixes and fun encouraged."

OK, I got my copy of the CD+ package today at 'Rama. Question of the day: What the heck does the title mean?
