(Linda - if this should be moved to the vaults forum, that's fine. I wasn't sure where to put it.)

The 10/21 Best Buy ad is showing a Best Buy Edition of the Amy Winehouse "Back To Black" album, with four bonus tracks and an interview. This makes at least three versions of this album that I'm aware of, and I'm not even a fan.

Is it any wonder I don't want to buy a CD when it's first released? Yeah, it's downloading that's causing the industry's problems. :sigh:

On a related note, does anyone know why the cover of the album changed from a photo of her sitting in a chair to the current leaned-back pose?

Here is just fine, Alan, it's still her latest album therefore still a "New Release". :)

You've got to be kidding Linda!!? Does that come w/ a dime bag attached? Oh sorry....poor taste. Poor old doll got nabbed for some recently. I sincerely hope she cleans herself up soon. Her and Britney should get together, lock themselves in an absolutely empty room and slap themselves STRAIGHT!
BTW - Loved this album....have already paid for it once....and will not again. Like Alan said - and the labels wonder why people continue to download for free??? Stupid twits........

Looks like the import bonus disc consists mostly of covers. I'll have to get one, just for "Monkey Man."

After doing some research, it looks like all these bonus tracks are Live from Glastonbury 2007, or at least my usual haunts have that set posted ad nausem. P.S. the sound quality is excellent on these as well!

Oops, I was confusing Glastonbury with Isle of Wight, where the Stones played this year. Never mind.

"Monkey Man" doesn't appear to be a Stones' cover. There is a version on iTunes (live from London at the iTunes festival), and the 30 second sample sounds nothing like the Stones' classic:

If you look at the amazon.uk listing, the picture for this re-issue clearly says contains 8 new studio recordings.

I've found out that "Monkey Man" is a cover of the Specials. And Steve - you are correct - I jumped the gun assuming these we're all live tracks from Glastonbury. Apologizes to the group on that misinfo.
After more research it looks like that Glastonbury set from June 22 2007 is all set to come out on a DVD (did someone mention already? -sorry). So you can put that on ur Chritmas list as well. Those tracks were posted all over too. Sounded great to me.
Needless to say, AW is pretty hot in the marketplace at the moment....if she can just keep her head together........

Well, I found a DVD of her gig at London's Shepherd's Bush Empire schedule for release in North America on November 13th:

I've heard about this singer in the press, most notably about her toxic dependencies and outrageous behaviors.

Finally actually heard her voice via MediaPlayer preview snippets...and wow. She sounds like she's the real deal. So now I've got to get her CD.

Which version is the best, re value/bang for the buck? Thanks.

Does anybody else think Amy is entirely unremarkable? The album being discussed left me cold. At least she DID kick down the doors for a new soul revival. Check out Nicole Willis, Ruthie Foster and Bettye LaVette. 8-)

It's not the Stones song. Is a reggae number. 8-)

I agree with you. She's just one of those people that I just don't get and at this point don't care. The songs I've heard are slow and boring. I don't understand what the big deal is.

I've held off on getting her cd so far, even though it seems to be the type of music I would enjoy. I find that a lot of the new singers don't come close to matching their hype, not that that is entirely their fault. The press makes her out to be the greatest voice in years, just reading the posts on this thread, that doesn't seem unanimous.

She may be, but the production of the album is a terrific recreation of an older era's sound. I don't know exactly what era because I am not a music scholar, but somewhere in between when Marty McFly when back in time and played guitar to when Ray Charles was doing his thing.

I don't think she has to be the next greatest voice ever for this album to be worth purchasing. To my taste these are good songs with, as Will mentions, great production sung by a woman with a very good, interesting voice. It's not Dusty in Memphis but it's still more entertaining than most of the new mainstream music that was released last year.

Well I hope she cleans up lifestyle up a bit - saw her on that EMA awards show (not sure when that was taped) and she was in outer space! Managed to say "thank you" when she won an award, but when she sang ("Back To Black") I could only make out about every 12th word.......
