Anybody ever thought about putting together an IMWAN podcast? With the board’s members’ interest in comics reviews, movie talk, original music, games, etc., it seems like there’d be plenty of things to talk about and/or play on a semi-regular basis. I’d sure listen to features like a Point/Counterpoint, indie music that anyone might want to feature, movie reviews, classic comics talk, HeroClix talk, original story readings, what have you.

Been listening to podcasts here and there on the Web and there’s some really fun content to be found. Seems like it’d be simple enough to put together, and a unique use of the board. (I couldn’t help though; I’m ashamed of my ridiculous accent.)

What do you all think?

I like the idea.
I've never done one so I don't know the why's and wherefore's, but I'd be interested!

Greetings, listeners. You're tuned to WAN, podcasting in 64k mono for Sexy Nano owners listening through earbuds in noisy train stations, and 128k joint stereo for the people who rip audiophile CDs for Usenet distribution using 1998 software.

Welcome to WANiversity Of The Air. Today's subject ~ comic books. What are they? How did they get here? What dangers do they pose? And how can we protect ourselves against them?

I've done it for my comedy group so I could help.

Biggest problem is bandwidth.

Well, I have a suggestion who could voice it if we had enough writers.

How much bandwidth is needed?

Big Band.

It depends on how many listeners we have. When I podcast our comedy group's radio show, we ate up the bandwidth pretty quickly. We got around that by posting the audio on the Internet Archive (using them to store etc.) It delays thing a few days but saves bucks.

Hey all. Here's a demo cast I whipped up. Really this is just me fiddling around with GarageBand.com's podcast options, but I pretended like it was a pitch, a pilot, an offer, a deal for an ongoing WANcast.

I also pretended I was a giant, and wore great big boots whilst recording everything.

In theory I should be able to embed the control panel somehow, so that all you have to do is press play, but that's not working. But this link...

http://www.garageband.com/user/dansehane/podcast/main

...takes you right to it. Was pretty fun to mess around with. If anyone wants another, or has original content they'd like included in a future show, PM or e-mail me. I'd also gladly cede DJ duties. Turns out I make that disgusting lipsmack sound when I talk. Who knew?

Now ... what the hell do we do with this?

Dude - you SO sound like a CBC radio announcer, especially from the Saturday afternoon program DNTO (Definitely Not The Opera - I could explain the title, but it is better if you just have to always wonder). Cool stuff!

NO WAY! But that's... it's...

I can't adapt to that.

A weekly/monthly music subscription, with each member able to contribute one song per show? Y'know, the Dead Kennedys/KISS/Skip James/Beatles/Billy Joel/SHAZAM/Kid Ory mix....

Check out this option for embedding the player and podcasting at the same time:

That's pretty cool, Dan. For your info, I have always called it im-won too, even though it seemed logical for the I'm one as well.

Of course, my IMWAN experience is just 3 months old as of yesterday.

I keep going back and forth on the pronunciation. Although I still remember first hearing about it on the JBF, when JR and Dan had the slogan "IMWAN - RU?" as their sigline.

I have my Folk Implosion quote to remind me of the long "I."

I'm okay with both pronunciations, thank you! It only adds to the mystery--and off-topicness!

But I thought there was no correct way to pronounce IMWAN. Rather, there was no way to incorrectly pronounce IMWAN. I pronounce it "The Linda and Leo Board".
