2008 special deluxe two-CD edition of the debut album by the Pop/Jazz duo consisting of Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn. The 1984 release of [title]Eden[/title] became an event as these two (previously) solo artists had come together to create a lighter type of popular music that relied a lot on Jazz tinges and feature Ms. Thorn's lilting voice upfront. Their music joined that of Sade, Matt Bianco (both with Basia in that group and as a solo artist), Paul Weller's post-Jam group The Style Council and others in what many referred to as 'sophisti-pop'. This style offered an alternative to the new wave flavour of the month and laid the foundation for much of the lounge music that would emerge in the mid-1990's.

I would guess that the tracks that were on the US self-titled album would make up some of the bonus material. But that's 6 songs, not enough for a second CD.

I've got a friend who played with them in 84 and 85 and maintains there is a lot of unreleased stuff and that both Tracey and Ben recorded innumerable demos, so that'd be my guess as to where the bonus material is coming from.

That would be great! I have Tracey's pre-EBTG album but haven't heard any of Ben's solo music from that era. We'll see what happens in November.

you should really get ben's "north marine drive".
but be sure to get the edition with the robert wyatt
bonus tracks. it's really a nice collection of songs.
(i'm referring to the 14-track edition here).
probably much more accessible than tracey's
pre-EBTG material. very melancholy, very melodic.

Still hasn't been released....some sites show a Jan 09 release date, but Amazon UK has it listed as a "Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available" item...so I'm guessing this has been cancelled? Does anyone know?

I've been waiting for this one forever. amazon.co.uk bounces the price up and down but it never seems to actually appear.

WEA UK is now saying that it's scheduled for January 5, 2009. Amazon USA has a pre-order listing for the import (see second post above), but Amazon UK is still showing a dead page, and there's still no tracklisting for it. Frankly I'll believe it when we have it in our hands ...

I do recall that while EDEN was released in the UK, the US had the self-titled release EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL. From what I can recall, the US version had a somewhat altered tracklist. I don't remember specifics and the vinyl is in a box in the basement...

(I have too much time on my hands to be researching this stuff...)

In addition, there were two other tracks released as B-Sides at the time that WEREN'T included on the US version... so we can probably assume disc 1 of the release (if it ever eventuates) will look something like this..?:

All quiet on the "Eden" front? I just gave this album another listen and it sounds as fresh as the first time I heard it in the mid '80s.

Temporarily locked because of a technical issue.
