2007 UK compilation from the Soul icons. Along with the Spinners and the O'Jays, the Stylistics were one of the leading Philly Soul groups of the '70s The band had ten Top 10 and six Top 40 singles including 'Betcha by Golly, Wow,' 'I'm Stone in Love With You,' 'You Make Me Feel Brand New' and 'I Can’t Give You Anything (But My Love)' . Of all their peers, the Stylistics were one of the smoothest and sweetest Soul groups of their era. All of their hits were ballads, graced by the soaring falsetto of Russell Thompkins, Jr. and the lush yet graceful productions of Thom Bell, which helped make the Stylistics one of the most successful Soul groups of the '70s. This is a pretty solid Stylistics compilation with good track-by-track liner notes courtesy of Russell Thompkins, Jr., but be aware that Thompkins' recent solo tracks round out the second CD. For a 2-disc "all Stylistics, all the time" compilation, check out this 36-track UK compilation from 2005, THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION:

That said, most of the tracks are duplicated on both collections, and the liner notes aren't as copious on the 2005 version (an import from Universal, who seems to control the material overseas that Amherst controls here). Being a Philly Soul/Thom Bell enthusiast, I bought both packages, but one will certainly do -- the track overlap is significant.

Hope this helps!

Whatever you choose, you really need "Ready or Not" - it was sampled by The Fugees.

Which tracks are recent on Disc 2. I can't seem to locate info on that, even in the reviews.

I wonder if this collection has the extended version of People Make The World Go Round?

The final four tracks are Thompkins', either solo or with "The New Stylistics". These tracks are "No One In The World" (Hirsh/Sharron), "Just Like We Never Said Goodbye" (Appalah/Black), "Hurry Up This Way Again" (Wansel/Biggs) and "My Happiness" (McCoy/Cobb) and they date from 2002-2005.

John, "People Make The World Go Round" runs 3:31 on this disc, according to the sleeve.
