When I get steak and eggs, everything gets ketchup. Otherwise, only for a change of pace.

I prefer my steaks plain. No A-1 either.

I like it.
In fact, at a real, real fancy restaurant, if they don't have it, I am disappointed, and sometimes ask for it anyway.

And how does the staff respond?

Don't you already have it tough enough?

I'd do a helluva lot worse than spit in your plate if you did it at MY restaurant!

The number of former food workers who have admitted to expectorating in people's food is alarming.

They either say "here you go" or they say "We don't have it." Usually here you go.
I'm the customer, if I like it, and I want it, and they have it, and I'm paying for it, why shouldn't I get it?

But they don't refuse service They seem happy enough to please the customer.

I have friends who've made a career of food service/kitchen work, and the stories they tell me are horrifying. Hell, the stuff I've SEEN them do makes me wonder if I should ever eat out again!

My Uncle decades ago used to pee in the pickle jars at the deli he worked at.

Explains a lot about you, starting with your love for pickles.

I'm not much of a ketchup fan. I put it on turkey burgers, and that's about it.
Acceptable toppings for a steak that is on my plate:
-- caramelized onions and/or sauteed mushrooms
-- fresh horseradish (NOT creamy horseradish sauce...yuck)
-- bleu cheese crumbles
I liked steak sauce when I was a kid, but I'd never put it on steak now. I do occasionally have it with grilled pork chops, though.

Horeseradish or bleu cheese? Huh. Never heard of that on steak before.

Bleu cheese topped steak is a common menu item of most steakhouses I've been to.
