|
"Cantilever" is the first solo release by a member of Shoes, the legendary Zion, IL combo responsible for such power pop gems as "Too Late", "Tomorrow Night", "Love Is Like A Bullet", and about a gazillion others. Combining a contemporary feel with the classic Shoes' sound, the album's many catchy hooks at times bring to mind (and pay respect to) the works of Todd Rundgren, Paul McCartney, Lindsay Buckingham and maybe even Brian Wilson.
It hasn't been listed on Amazon yet, but should be available from Black Vinyl Records, or the Not Lame site.

A heads-up on this for Shoes collectors ~ Amazon never bothered to stock Jeff Murphy's solo album, but one of their third party dealers has created a listing for it and has exactly ONE copy of the Cantilever CD in stock, which also happens to be personally autographed by Jeff. So somebody snag this one while it's available!

He only had one listed last week and I ordered then. It came autographed. I doubt that he only has one left. It is the same vendor that I bought it from. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet. That vendor also has a "new" Shoes collection. It is a combination of demos called Double Exposure. The demos are from Present Tense and Tongue Twisters.

You're right, Rick. I am not one usually for demo collections, but "Double Exposure" is a giant step above the norm. Highlights include a song with completely different lyrics, that evolved into "Your Imagination", and three quality demos from each album session that are unreleased songs otherwise, not available on any other Shoes record (as far as I know). If you like "Present Tense" and "Tongue Twister", this is a must-buy.

Check out http://www.notlame.com for Jeff's solo disc, shoes recordings, and all things power pop. I absolutely, positively, highly recommend them!
