Finally. The Leon Russell Paradise albums.
And coincidentally, last night I had a dream I was at a Leon concert.

Buyer beware. Wounded Bird releases are known for their mediocre audio quality and bare bones packaging.

I have purchased Wounded Bird releases by Dave Edmunds, Ellen Foley, Mott The Hoople, Jesse Ed Davis and Carlene Carter and they are ALL inferior to their LP equivalents.

Collectables, Wounded Bird, Charly, and Collectors Choice always do the bare minimum. They serve the purpose of getting it out there, but nothing more, essentially "licensing squatters' they soak up pent up demand. Until a more comprehensive reissue looms.

And we're sure glad they do! Of course, lovingly-crafted reissues with careful remastering and complete artwork are desirable, but flat transfers with bare-bones packaging are better than nothing.

I wonder if the Wynton Marsalis reissues are going to sound better than the versions that are already out there?

But in many cases there won't ever be a more comprehensive reissue. I like flat transfers.

I've got the UK Angel Airs, I don't remember doing a serious critical listening session on them, but I don't remember them sounding real bad either. Probably different masters,

Ellen Foley's Spirit of St. Louis is the great lost Clash Holy Grail: written, produced and played by Strummer/Jones.

It's one of my big wish list items. I can't wait.

The Ellen Foley "Spirit Of St Louis" release has been on CD a couple of times before, notably on a CBS EU pressing which included the French version of "The Shuttered Palace" ("Le Palais Secret"), but the Wounded Bird CD lists the entire album, the previously mentioned bonus track and TWO others I don't know about:

The Shuttered Place / Torchlight / Beautiful Waste Of Time / The Death Of The Psycholananlyst Of Salvidor Dali / MPH / My Legionnaire / Theatre Of Cruelty / How Glad I Am / Phases Of Travel / Game Of A Man / Indestructible / In The Killing Hour

Bonus Tracks:
Le Palais Secret (The Shuttered Palace) (single version) / Black Boys /The Time Is Now

Those last two, does anyone know where they come from? Joe Strummer swore up and down that there were only two "Clash" demos from the album's tracks (I've got these) and that nothing else was recorded. But, like most musicians, his memory wasn't always spot on!

I've found the answer - "Black Boys" is the tune from "Hair" and "The Time Is Now" is on some other sort of compilation of something originally . . . no Clash connection for these tunes, but I guess this CD is a reasonable place to put them.
