I have noticed over the years that Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth (1989) is one of his most popular books. Many people from all walks of life have mentioned it as a favorite. I think it was a big word of mouth book. It was also a pinnacle for Follet -- he was soon to devolve into a run of slight crapola.

Anyway, there's a sequel coming out on October 9. Any fans out there interested in reading it when it comes out and discussing it? My wife and I will be doing our "book club" thing on this -- buying two copies and reading it together at the same time.

I'm definitely interested, but I don't think I can squeeze this into my schedule. I really loved Pillars though, and I'm glad you pointed this out - I had no idea this was coming.

Yes, yes I did like Pillars. I'm with Jim, I didn't know this was coming out.

Pillars of the Earth was just picked as the next Oprah Book Club book.

I'm not chagrined by this. I enjoyed it on a "beach read" level and it's the type of book I would expect to be picked.

For clarity, Pillars is the one that came out in 1989. World Without End is the recent sequel.
