Duran Duran name new album

04.Jul.07 11:56am

Duran Duran have named their album 'Red Carpet Massacre'.

According to posting on duranduran.com, the band are putting the final touches to the record with producer Nate 'Danja' Hills.

The band also worked with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake on some tracks.

Song titles include the title track, 'Last Man Standing', 'Box Full O'Honey', 'The Valley', 'Falling Down' (co-written with Timberlake) and 'Skin Divers' (co-written with Timberlake and Timbaland and featuring both artists).

It's the first album since the departure of guitarist Andy Taylor, who left after reuniting with the original line up for 2004's 'Astronaut'. No release date for the album has been announced.

The band recently played as part of the Concert For Diana and are set to play the London leg of Live Earth this weekend (July 7).

It happens only two tracks in: Just when you're re-acquainting yourself with Simon Le Bon's sexy whine and settling in for a disc full of digestible, modernized new wave, Red Carpet Massacre takes a turn toward the Timberlake-like. By the time you reach track eight, the sizzling instrumental "Tricked Out," the effect is so pronounced you can't be sure whose chocolate got into whose peanut butter. But you do know this, and with more certainty than you once placed in the power of the "Hungry Like the Wolf" video to get you through your teen-age day: Massacre is one hot record. Timbaland, the brilliant knob-twister behind Timberlake's FutureSex/Love Sounds, as well as his protegé, Danja, imbue it with buoyancy and way-past-midnight moodiness; on a couple of tracks, most notably "Skin Divers," which includes a short rap verse, Timbaland pitches in on vocals, and on a couple of others, he taps Timberlake to help out. That the contributions of that tag-team of hitmakers take nothing away from the tightness and characteristic chic of the band--that they enhance the hypnotic sheen of Duran Duran, rather than subjugate it--makes a certain sense. After all, if Timberlake brought sexy back, it had probably only been missing since Duran Duran's mid-80s heyday.

Looking forward to this one. I thought the last album was a nice return, although I wish Andy was still present.

If you go to UTube and look up Duran Duran Nite Runner you can hear a new song live, if it's still up there that is. Can't really get a feel for it though....

Couldn't agree more, Jim! What could they be thinking with that photo? Can't imagine it will inspire many impulse purchases.

Disagree - it's a good match for the title, and even reaches back to some of the band's '80s imagery.

It may be a good match for the title, but it's a bad match for the band at this stage in their career.

The cover does look very '80s to me. Artwork aside, do y'all plan to get this album?

I definitely plan to get it. Love the Duran, although I still wish that all the Taylor boys were onboard.

I don't think the cover's so horrible. They probably could have done better, but it's not a total wash.

I like album titles with the band's name in them in a superfluous way

Elvis Costello's Kojak Variety
The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society
The Who Sings My Generation
Duran Duran's Red Carpet Massacre

The only problem I have with the cover is that the foot on the right looks like it was badly Photoshopped in.

Glad to see Andy is finally gone. Let's face it, he's pretty lame as a guitarist. He had some good licks in their early days, but their best guitar player by far was Warren C. If only he'd return....

Duran Duran video banned

Oct 29, 2007

Duran Duran's new video for the single 'Falling Down' has reportedly been banned from UK television.

The band recently shot the video in Los Angeles depicting the theme of models in rehab, but the current version will not be aired in the UK because it has been deemed too controversial, according to Dotmusic.

A band spokesperson said that they have been forced to shoot a new "tamer" version of the video so it will receive airplay, and added that they are very disappointed to have to reshoot because they feel it is one of their best videos.

"The concept of models in rehab has so much to do with what the song's about," frontman Le Bon told NME.COM when they were shooting the video. "It's very sad but there's a kind of beauty in it as well," he added.

Duran Duran's new album 'Red Carpet Massacre' is due out November 12 in Europe and the UK and a day later in the US.

Here's the video in question:

Was that the tame version? I didn't see anything "controversial" at all.

That's the original "uncensored" version.

BTW, here's the electronic press kit for the album:

Okay...so I'm a total nitpicky-fussbudget: I bought the deluxe edition of this -- think the music is pretty cool... but you mean to tell me, in 2 booklets, there is no place to put the lyrics? What is with that?

Agreed. A year later, this one is still getting a lot of play. I think some listened with their eyes (seeing Timbaland and Timberlake in the credits) rather than their ears on this one.
