2007 issue 2-disc set - David was invited to compose the 12-song piece [previously unreleased on CD] by avant-garde theatre director Robert Wilson as part of his 12-hour 'The Civil Wars' opera; his staging for the Opera evoked Japanese Kabuki theatre but David was clearly inspired by the sound of New Orleans & gospel music; the set comprises a 20-track CD album including 7 previously unreleased instrumental recordings plus Bonus DVD containing a slide show of black & white photos shot during the original production at 30-second intervals by JoAnn Verburg.

This is the first time ever on CD for this title, IIRC. I know I bought the album but never played it much, like most of Byrne's solo material. May be time for a reappraisal.

This is a very different cover from the ECM release but if these are the brass band compositions for Robert Wilson's Civil Wars (or however the heck he wrote it) (and it appears to be just that) then...



This one on my wish list that I never thought I would see. I played this to death on LP.
