What this amounts to is a Temptations tribute band doing cover tunes, since there's only one original member left! lol

There are some members of the current line-up of The Temptations that have been with the group longer than some of the members of the original line-up. I consider the new group to be original insofar as they have recorded original albums. The Temptations discography lists more than fifty albums by various line-ups.

To me the Temptations will always be Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin, et al.
I saw them live a few years ago at a local fest, and it was depressing. I felt sorry for them...

I too like the Ruffin-Kendricks period best, but don't forget Ruffin left in '68, Kendricks I think in '71 - there have been a lot of good albums since then!

I think the Tempts revue with Dennis Edwards is more authentic. At least he sang leads.

I'm with Jeff on this one. Absolutely nothing beats the Kendricks-Ruffin-Paul Williams Temptations for dynamics, personality and vocals. Yes, the band went on to produce fine music without those three, and the present edition is probably the longest-lasting version of the band, but it's missing that spark.

I didn't know that Dennis Edwards was touring with an alternative Temptations. Is he legally prevented from using the Temptations name?

Their 90's covers album For Lovers was very well done. The last one they did was decent too. It's too bad bands like this can't do new material without it having to be the forgettable over produced pop crap.
