I bitched and moaned about this sitting on Twomorrow's "coming soon" list with erroneous shipping dates for months. They finally pulled it from their website entirely.
Word was that Mr. Aparo's death caused them to delay it in order to update it, but it's since disappeared.
A real shame.

That really stinks, I hope they resolicit it soon! A few years back there was an issue of a magazine called Comics Pro solicited that had was entirely devoted to Jim Aparo, and it too was pulled. Why must such a great artist get no respect?

I think this is dead in the water. The original release date was October 2005! It's a real shame, I was really looking forward to it!

I really loved Aparo's work on Brave and the Bold. His Aquaman stuff was something I didn't see much of, but really liked.
Did he ever do any work, even a commission/pin-up of any Marvel characters though? I only ever remember him on DC stuff.

I'm very hot and cold when it comes to Aparo. I think that some of his stuff is just brilliant (i.e. the Outsiders material above), but I've also winced at how sloppy and clunky he can be at times (i.e. that Batman/Two-Face page above).

I remember a site that had a few Aparo pencil drawings of Scarlet Witch and Captain America from a few years back, but I can't seem to find them anymore.

Frank, that has a lot to do with his inkers - the piece above is DeCarlo I think, not one of the more flattering inkers on Aparo. He was of course at his best when he inked himself, which he did for the bulk of his career. The last 5-10 years he had a succession of different inkers, only a few truly did him justice. I liked Aparo/Rapmund and Aparo/Sinkiewicz the best.

Are you referring to the storytelling on that page, or the art itself? I really think that towards the end of his career, DC paired him up with inkers that just did nothing for his pencils. Mike DeCarlo comes to mind. A "clunky" inker if ever there was one in my opinion, and definitely not one who suited Aparo.

From Scott Beatty's web site:
"For those of you wondering where the heck the Jim Aparo tribute book is from TwoMorrows, the good news is that THE BRAVE AND BOLD ART OF JIM APARO is still in the works and will likely be ready and published in 2007.
It’s been slow-going from my end, so please bear with us… "
I'm sending him an e-mail as well.

I was referring to the art.
What you're saying about DeCarlo makes sense. Looking back, a lot of the Aparo art that I don't like has DeCarlo's name on it.
Seriously, that Two-Face page and the Outsiders pin-up look like they were done by two different people. Did Aparo ink his own pencils on the Outsiders stuff?

For the majority of his career (including the Outsiders) Jim Aparo did his own inks and lettering. The editors got to the point where they trusted his judgement and didn't need to see his pencils, so he would pencil a page each morning, and letter and ink it in the afternoon. His lettered sound effects and titles had a distinct style to them, as did his word balloon text. His pointed D's are a dead giveaway.

I never knew that Aparo was a letterer as well.
